dale, if I understand right the sequence always starts with 100001? My car is from atlanta and its sequence number is 100170, so i take it that it was the 170th car made? all cars or chevelles? also i posted a question about distributor codes last night no response, can u help me on this also? thanks steelworker

For most years of (US-built) 64-72 Chevelles, this is true. The 69 model started with #300001 and the 72 model with #500001. The sequence number 100170 would be the 170th Chevelle built at that particular plant for the model year, be it Malibu/wagon/300 Deluxe, etc. If the plant also built Camaros, Novas, Impalas, etc., they have their own sequence numbers.

FWIW, body numbers on the Fisher Body plate (commonly referred to as trim or firewall tag) concerned only the body number and had nothing to do with the sequence number of the vehicle. I'm sure somewhere in those 9 years one or two might have matched up but it would be a coincidence.

did all plants start with 100000. i.e. would it be possible to have 2 cars with the same sequence number but differnt plants? let's say for example 136370B111111 and 136370R111111. Is this possible?

Hell yeah, its possible but not a sure thing. Car 111111 at one plant may be a Chevelle Malibu but 111111 at another might be a sedan or el camino.

The less models the greater the chance. Camaro for example is more likely to be since only chance for 4 difference models, 12337, 12437, 12367 and 12467. There were more Chevelle model variations, 2 dr sedans, 4 dr sedans, convertible, station wagons (2 and 4 drs), El Camino's. I count about 14 models, so what are the chances 111111 would be same model in one or more plants, slim but possible.

All Chevelles (except 69 and 72) started with #100001 (not 100000) as the 1st Chevelle for the model year. smile.gif . As stated above, it's entirely possible for two plants to have the same sequence of '111111' but they'd probably be different models of Chevelles.
