: Build sheet location and tag??
mnm99 Jun 30th, 04, 8:53 PM I can't find a build sheet I looked under all carpets, door panels and rear seat. Where else ca I look?
Also I found a 3x5 tag under the seat. It reads
FRA43145 13637 779
A52 B55 C50
What is this?
Thanks
DaleM Jun 30th, 04, 11:06 PM Build sheets aren't guaranteed to be found at all. They were suppose to be put in the trash when the worker was done with them. Assembly line work being what it is and was, it was easier to stuff paperwork in the car as a means of disposing of it.
What year, you don't specify? Maybe 68 or 69? I say that because the paper you did find is a trim sheet from Framingham, Mass. and only 65-69 Chevelles were built there. Both 68 and 69 have the numbers found on the tag.
FRA ~ Framingham, Mass. assembly plant
43145 ~ Body number - should match body number on the body plate (trim tag)
13637 ~ Malibu sport coupe trim level
779 ~ trim color; for 1968 it's Med. Gold Rapture Cloth/Imitation Leather (bench) and for 1969 it's Med. Turquoise Rior Cloth/Met. Med. Turquoise Coated Fabric.
The other three are Regular Production Option (RPO) codes for specific trim.
A52 ~ Seat Assy., Bench
B55 ~ Deluxe Front Seat Cushion
C50 ~ Rear Window Defroster and Defogger
These trim sheets were used along with build sheets to instruct the assembly line workers what was to be installed.

elcamino Jul 2nd, 04, 8:32 AM Because there were 1000's of car in production in any given week. Built sheets, broadcast copies or trim sheet were attached to the assemblies for use by the plant. They were not intended for the consumer. The fact that they are found today is proof that the workers often cared little about what they were doing. Otherwise they would have removed this paper trail after the put in the part(s) but when you have 30 seconds to install you items, you could care less about the paper ID that was attached to it. Keep in mind what you find is only part of a whole lot more paperwork that was attached to car, what you find was hidden from view and was not found in cleanup at the end of line or even at dealer.
steelworker198 Jul 2nd, 04, 8:44 AM found mine for my 70 ss built in atlanta, in the back seat where it attaches to the trunk graemlins/thumbsup.gif
DaleM Jul 2nd, 04, 11:22 AM Totally agree. If the paperwork were meant to be left in the car then all would have had them in, hopefully, the same place. However, paperwork has been found under/in/behind seats, in the headliner, under the carpets, in the door panels, on top the gas tank, and even between the fender and body in the case of one 66 owner here.
Wouldn't it have been nice if ALL the paperwork had been bundled in glassine envelopes, delivered to the dealer and ultimately to the owner? Then everyone would know what all the numbers were and it'd be almost impossible to sell fake cars. :D

wilmaya Jul 5th, 04, 12:58 PM My 70 SS 396 build sheet was glued to the driver door panel as per the dealer I purchased it from. It was cut out from the door panel. Is it possible? Seems strange that the time would be taken to do this.
crazychevelle Jul 5th, 04, 3:04 PM wow, its amazing where you can find some of the paper work for these cars. I tried looking under the back seat, front seat, and carpet in my 67 malibu but no luck yet. I guess i should keep on looking. I plan on doing a full resto in late auguest so hopefully ill be able to find it when i pull the car apart.

If your car is Canadian you can get the information from GM Canada. Here is a link from this site with the info

Ls6Convertible Jul 5th, 04, 8:41 PM Framingham usually means there is a sheet on the tank..there is a local guy that buys all the chevelles[ss or hint of being an ss] he can from framingham as he knows he will probably find documentation when he pulls the tank on a non trunk or gas tank replaced car...
