My project car came in pieces I was able to decode the casting number to 1973 to 1985 car or light truck 454 is there anyway to get it any more specific ?

www.mortec.com/location.htm (http://www.mortec.com/location.htm) will tell you where to look for casting numbers and www.mortec.com/bbc.htm (http://www.mortec.com/bbc.htm) will tell you what they decode to for your block and heads. i don't think you will get any more specific.

there should be a 2 or 3 letter suffix code on the front of the block dead center just below the intake landing. some of the older blocks have the code on the front pad on the right side of the motor just under the head(pass side). that code will tell you everything important about that block.

there should also be a casting date somewhere that will give a better idea...
