Ok I tried a search with no luck. Is it possible to get the oil pan off a sbc in a 69 El Camino/ auto trans? Is there enough room after blocking up the engine mounts? Not my car, but I gotta know so I know how much to charge the guy, or if the engine has to come out. Thanks.

This question is asked about 5 or 6 times a month. Yes, you can remove the pan on a small block. You have to have the engine up as HIGH as it will go, (remove dist, exhaust) and the crank in the 'correct' position (I think its TDC mark down). And after you do this, you'll wish you had removed the engine. Its difficult to do this in the car and not have a leak when your done.

I removed the oil pan, diconnected the exhaust, loosened the engine and auto tranny mounts (jacked the engine up too) on a 1982 Camaro to replace the rear main seal, upon it's failure (after only TWO years,), but the car was on a lift.
