I went to look at a 69 SS Camaro last night and I would like to know what this car is? Can anyone tell me what motor this is and if the car is a real SS? The motor # is T122IJH this number is the one on the passenger side behind the alternator. And I also have the vin 124379L504215. If it were the right motor for the car the numbers on the motor would match some of the numbers in the vin wouldn't they? I went to write down the cowl tag info, and found it was missing  Why would someone remove the cowl tag? Can someone tell me what this is!! Thanks for the Help!!

"T" is the Tonawanda engine assembly plant.

"1221" is December 21st assembly date.

"JH" 1969 396/375HP 4-speed Camaro

The partial VIN may also be stamped vertically on a machined area just above the oil filter boss.

The VIN decodes as follows:
124379 indicates a 1969 Camaro V8 coupe
L Los Angeles assembly plant
504215 makes it number 4215 off the assembly line that year in LA.

As far as the car being an SS, there is no way to tell without the build sheet for a Los Angeles built car which yours is but with a 396/375 I would think it should be. The trim data tag would not even tell you that unlike a Norwood, OH built car which had the infamous "X" codes which started the second week of December 1968 (1969 prod. year) and would tell you if it was a Base Camaro (which includes COPO's), Z28, SS (Base SS), SS350, SS BBC, etc. Why someone would remove the trim tag is questionable and open to debate
