Many years ago while on vacation we went through New Braunfels and happened onto the Museum which is the extent of my knowledge of the area.
Nor Cal Chevelle Apr 4th, 09, 12:00 AM Closest airport would be Austin or San Antonio - about 1 hour drive. Or fly into Dallas or Houston and have a 3-4 hour drive.
Good German food in New Braunfels.

I saw those..... i just have to worry that I'll be there on the bank of the river and the tree huggers will start watering me down and try to get me back to the ocean  it might cause a little media stir when I'm there...... if you all hear about a wayward beached whale in Texas in August, it's just me.
marooned Apr 4th, 09, 5:50 AM Krause's Resturant in downtown is excellent. Oma's Haus is another good place to eat.
There's an excellent choice of Mexican resturants there too.
freddybob64 Apr 4th, 09, 8:24 AM I have been in the area several times as my daughter lives in Austin. Probably closer to fly into San Antonio. Great food all over the area, Mexican food, Barbque, and German food. If it is your first and possibly only time in the area I would definately go to the Alamo and the River Walk in San Antonio. If you are married and your wife likes to shop head North to San Marcos, two outlet malls south of town. San Antonio and Austin areas are great places to visit.
Removed Apr 4th, 09, 10:08 AM This is one of my favorite towns to visit.................San Antonio is my absolute favorite. It will be warm. Visit Gruene (pronounced green) on the river. It has the oldest dancehall in Texas as well as the Grist Mill restraunt (it is a must to eat there), Great place. To bad you can't be there for the Octoberfest.
San Antonio is close by..............gotta make time to visit the Riverwalk near the Alamo. Lots to do in that part of Texas.
I agree with the rest of the recommendations above.
You will have fun !!
SweetShot Apr 4th, 09, 9:24 PM Best smoked meats around. I get a smoked Turkey from them each Thanksgiving....and thier beef smoked meats are excellent!!!!
New Braunfels Smoked Meats. :D
Have fun!

Bryan59EC Apr 4th, 09, 10:09 PM The Riverwalk and the Alamo are really "must sees" if you are in the area.
Personally I am not a fan of the city at all (any city really---too many people and and everything is too close together), But the Riverwalk is a nice little tour in itself. Dining , drinking, sightseeing, and a boatride tour if you are interested.
The Alamo, much smaller than one would expect, but so full of local history it is just amazing.
Look me up when you get in----if I am in town, I may be able to do the Riverwalk thing with ya. My wife really likes it, and I gotta admit, as crabby as I can be, I enjoy it as well.

Bryan, you have a PM :D
Evryone else, Thanks so much for offering these suggestions, we didn't want to do the "fly in, wedding, reception, fly out" thing and were looking at spending a few days in the area :waving:
Autoengineer Apr 5th, 09, 12:25 AM You could go to Seguin and see the worlds largest Pecan.
Bunz-T Apr 5th, 09, 4:53 AM Do not miss Gruene. Your wife will love it. Some of the best BBQ is often overlooked to the East in Lockhart.

Looks like they lost the title. Oh, well, you could go see the worlds 2nd largest pecan....and yes. I have seen it in person!

X2 on Gruene. And if travel out a few miles on FM 304, there's great tubing on the Guadelupe river. Canyon Lake is right there also. Just watch your speed. There's a sign in Canyon City that says, "Slow down, see our dam. Speed up, see our dam judge."
There's also supposed to be a big swap meet and car show coming up, I think.
