: help with a 64 cowl tag
MedicTed Jun 20th, 04, 8:37 AM I have looked through all of the pages I could find. Can someone please confirm what I think I have as correct?
Cowl tag
05D 463
style 64 5667 BA 3308 body
trim 753 918 paint
the 05D is built 4th week of May. Not sure about the 463
1964 2 door convertible body # 3308 from Baltimore
Aqua ? bench seat and Azure metallic paint ?
Thanks for your help.
Ted
Bacchus Jun 20th, 04, 8:49 AM Ted, I'm no expert on the numbers, but I'd love to see a picture of your car! I have a '64 SS convertible, Azure Aqua Mettalic with white top and white interior. Buckets, 283, and 4-speed.

DaleM Jun 20th, 04, 10:59 AM Your info is correct. Paint code 918 is Azure Aqua and the interior code 753 is Med. Metallic Aqua Imitation Leather bench seat. As far as the "463" number, I know on 67 Baltimore-built Chevelles this is the Job number from the Trim Broadcast sheet and have three samples of tags with the corresponding trim sheets.
The 64 through 67 Baltimore tags are consistent with a number in this location so it's an assumption at this point as to the meaning for 64 to 66 models as I have no documented proof. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Bob Johnson Jun 20th, 04, 1:46 PM Thanks for the info on the 463 Dale, My LA car it's not there.
Now to Hi Jack Teds post, Do you know if the BODY VN# 3308 is for all Convetible Bodys or it is broken down by Malibu & Malibu SS?
Bob J.
Bacchus Jun 21st, 04, 6:57 AM 3308 is just the sequence number. The 5667 tells you whether it is an SS or not.

LeoP Jun 21st, 04, 6:30 PM the 5667 and the others indicate the series and body style, the 67 indicates the car is a convertible.

The Fisher Body unit number is simply a number assigned when GM ordered the car to be built and does not indicate any sequencing nor is it model specific. Generally (repeat generally) the body numbers were in sequence with built dates. However, any number of things could hold up a particular body before being delivered to the chassis shop for assembly. I have numerous examples of larger body numbers being 'built' before Chevelles with smaller body numbers.
Example of some KC 64 Chevelles:
04B ~ #12915 (Malibu V8 SS coupe)
05A ~ #6184 (Mailub V8 4-door wagon)
05D ~ #4533 (Malibu V8 SS convertible)
06C ~ #19468 (Malibu V8 SS coupe)
Examples of some VN (Van Nuys) 64 Chevelles:
11A ~ #1063 (Malibu V8 4-dr wagon)
2C ~ #6433 (Malibu V8 SS coupe)
2D ~ #6638 (Malibu V8 SS coupe)
5C ~ #897 (Malibu V8 convertible)
6B ~ #629 (Malibu wagon)
06C ~ #19438 (Chevelle 300 2-dr wagon)
(BTW, don't confuse the VN on the body plate, it's for Van Nuys and not VIN Number.)
I have examples of other years and plants at my ChevelleStuff site.

Learn something everyday,
You can add my VN 64 if you like. It's a 10A Body VN #142 V8 SS convert. Cushion room copy dated 10-07, Seq No. 82
(BTW) It was the 4856 Chevelle build at the VN plant.
