I am in need of a new monitor and dontneed anything expensive or wild but i would like a 17-19" one. Most all the 19" ones i find though are widescrean and i dont know if thats really the way to go. I dont want it to mess up my resolution and my view of things cause its all destored. I found a really good deal on www.buy.com (http://www.buy.com) for a 19 but i am wondering if it will work for me. Any advice?

THanks
Andy

I have a 19" widescreen Samsung and love it. I run at 1440x900 and it looks fine.

I have a 22" Dell and wife has a 19" or 20" Optiquest, both are widescreen. She runs hers at 1152x864 while I like more real estate and run mine at 1680x1050 with no hint of distortion. It's a matter of finding the right resolution combination - some combinations will make your screen look distored.

Having gone to a widescreen monitor it's hard to go back.

Got a KDS 22" wide at a local shop for $190.
Updated the video drivers and good at 1440x900 for these old eyes.

i went from a 17" CRT to a 22" widescreen. Very nice upgrade. Make sure you run your resolution at its advertised native resolution or else it will be distorted. You can run games at various other widescreen resolutions and it will look fine. Mine for example is 1680x1050. Looks great. No issues with pictures or videos. The extra space is very useful. Desktop icons and fonts are very small at 1680x1050 with even a 22", I would not want a 20" thats for sure.
