Looking for a plug or some other method to plug up the tail shaft, so when I install the motor/trans the oil wont leak out. Hard to get the oil in afterwards, and yes, I have one of those transfer pump things...just dont like them, make a mess.

Is this a new TKO, if so it should have a plug in it already. Look in the tail shaft and see if it is there. It's not like a cap, it is a rubber ring.

The shipping plugs are installed at the factory to stop the residual test oil from leaking out during shipping and aren't really designed for this purpose but will do in a pinch. They are kind of hard on the seal if not pushed back in properly. NAPA and other stores have inexpensive fluid pumps that are not messy to use. Or you could check with a tranny shop in your area to see if they have a slip yoke you could borrow. Also some of the Ford reman automatics are shipped with a plastic cover that might do the job but most tranny shops that get these trannys throw them away but you could ask. Those plunger style pump thingys are messy but there's nothing like the smell of Synchromesh running down your sleeve to your arm pits.:D

I ripped that shipping plug out long ago when I first installed the trans. Its just tough to get to that trans after its installed. A slip yoke would actually be perfect, but probably too much $$ and a PIA to find around here.
Was thinking something like this, just not sure if its the right size:

a plastic baggy secured to the tail housing with duct tape doesn't cost much.

Necessity is the mother of invention! Good suggestion.

Summit Racing sells few plugs. I'm not sure if any of these would work.
