Hi again !
The guy I bought my SS396 from has a friend with another -69 SS396 parts car. Itīs for sale so I went to look at it yesterday. The car is a basket case and the VIN-tag has been removed. Heīs got the tag, but where do I find the hidden numbers so that I can be sure of itīs identity ?
Was there ever a VIN stamped on the frame ?

Firewall - my 69 SS covertible has two VINs stamped beneath the heater box on the firewall.

The VIN could be stamped on the frame, on the top surface behind either rear wheel. It might be there or not. Some people have done 500 cars and never seen one on the frame. I have done 5 and seen VINs on all 5....it is kinda hard to see, but look close and use a wire brush to clean the surface. Look on both rear rails..Also, on the left rear side of the frame, there is a stamp with the frame manufacturer, the MFG date, and the part number/code of the frame.

I went there today and found at least one VIN (the same as on the tag) under the heaterbox. It was stamped upside-down. Iīll try and find one on the frame later this week.

I took a closer look at the bucket seats today, since they are one of the reasons why I want this car.(I donīt have correct ones in my SS 396).
When I looked inside the passenger seat, I saw a card. It was a punch-card with some information on it, and a lot of holes of course !
In the SEQ.-TRIM column: 025313, 756 3637
BODY-NO. column: 30218 (matches the trim tag)
INSP.SEQ.NO. column: 741 (there is B L028741 on the trim tag)
C column: 3 (and a handwritten B. Is the #3 a code for Baltimore ? Itīs got a B in the VIN)
OPTIONS column: A51 (What is A51 ?)
STYLE column: 13637 (matches the trim tag)
TRIM column: 756 (matches the trim tag)

What do you make out of this ?

A51 is option code for: Front Bucket Seats-Astro Type
756 is interior truim code for black bucket seat interior


Trim Tag, Cowl Tag are all names for what GM called the Body Tag
