I may have a tough one for you guys. I have a 3935440 cast block. I cann't read the whole broach pad. I can clearly make out 354464 stamped at the end. in front of it, it looks like 0 1 V with spaces between each. any idea what I got?

According to Colvin's book it looks like a '68 396 block and it was either 2 0r 4 bolt mains. Used in late '68 cars and some early 69's until suppliew ran out. Hope this helps some.

That casting is used on 68 through 70 blocks.
See here (http://www.chevellestuff.com/tech/images/bbcast2.jpg)
If the stamped number you have is a partial VIN, it'd be from a 69 model as that was the only year that Chevelle sequence numbers started with 300001, 68s were sequence numbered from 100001. Have to see a picture of the stamping but could be for January, Flint (V) assembly plant which would make it a NON Chevelle engine since Chevelles were not assembled at Flint in 1969 - only 1966 and 1970.
There should be another set of stamped letters/numbers on the pad ~ something like "T1025JA".
