The three on the tree and 3:08 non posi doesn't really turn my crank, but if it is all original it has to indeed be super-rare. I am not very familiar with the Acadians and don't really know what options were availaible. I kind of wonder why someone would order the L-79 then the wimpy three speed and no posi.? Neat car however.

they ordered the engine but didn't specify transmission or posi so they got "standard" equipment.

That could possibly explain it.

Even though its original with the 3sp non-posi, do you think it would add value to have upgraded to a posi and 4sp? but then lose originality...

I believe there were only about 20 L-79 Acadians built in 1966. This looks similar to the one that was on Ebay a couple times in the last year or so. I think the other one had a red interior. If I remember correctly, it sold for a little over $50,000.

That is a very cool car.

Question. The ad says the car has "full wheel discs". I take they mean four wheel disc brakes. Was that available in 1966?

Full wheel dics=four full size hub caps

That car is maybe 30 to 60 minutes from me (depending on traffic).

In the U.S. 1966 Chevy II you could get a 153 (4 cyl), 194 & 230 sixes, 283 (2 & 4 barrel), 327 (275 & 350 horse). In Canada on the Chevy II & Acadian that year you could get the 194, 283 2-barrel, or the 327 350-horse. That's it.

The car below showed up at our neighborhood car show last summer. It is a factory L-79 Acadian Canso Sport Deluxe. The owner (in the cap) bought it from his brother who ordered it new. Manual steering, power metallic drum brakes, M20, 3.31:1 Posi. Those Canadian L-79 cars are quite rare, be they '66 X-bodies or '65 A-bodies.

A friend in upstate New York is restoring one now. It should be complete in the next couple months. He also has a few rare Beaumont SDs.
