Hi. graemlins/waving.gif This is my first post here at Team Chevelle, looks like you guys have quite the community here. Your site has helped me out alot, and I figured I should join. Also, I have a question about my Trim Plate.

My plate doesn't match the diagram that you have on your site, thus rendering it "undecodable", unless you are someone in the know, which is why I have come here. I need to find someone "in the know" to help me.

I have been interested in muscle cars since I was about 8 or 9 years old, but am only now really starting to get into it. I am 15 years old, and last year I purchased a 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu, after searching for a year for a car that I really liked.

ANYWAYS, back to my trim plate. The configuration doesn't quite match the diagram on your site, so I can't really tell what is what. I was hoping someone here can help me. I believe I have decoded some of it, but still need a little help.

And here is a picture with the letters outlined, although I may have misinterpereted some of them:

And finally, here is what I believe I have correctly decoded:

72=1972 Model
136:1=Chevrolet. I suspect 36 represents Chevelle Malibu.
37=2-door Sport Coupe
OS=Built in Oshawa, Ontario
514394=Unit Number. No significance.
720=Medium Tan Bench or Bucket
53=Pacer Gold ext. Color (lower body color)
11=Antique White (upper body color)
3A=First week of March
147-189=?

Thank you for your forums, and I hope you can help me.

Think you have everything correct. The last two sets of numbers are some type of plant tracking codes and different years/plants used different schemes. Sometimes the numbers (or partials of them) could be found on the build sheet but would only prove the build sheet for the particular car. To my knowledge, nobody knows what these are for specifically except to track the car.

Alright, thanks.

Also, how can I acquire a build sheet for this car? If I send my VIN to somebody can they reproduce the build sheet? Just wondering. Thanks.
