This is regarding the 5/8" fine thread bolt that goes through the backing plate and into the top of the disc spindle.

The ones I have are too long and bottom out in the hole before they are snug to the backing plate. Is there a thick washer that is supposed to go behind these or am I looking for a shorter bolt like a 5/8" by 3/4" long?

The shortest the hardware store had was 5/8" by 1" which were also bottoming out.

I don't recall exactly how long the bolt was out of my CPP front brake kit, but there was no washer, so I would assume a shorter bolt.

it is shorter, i looked three hardware stores and could not find it, and Nazarah is correct there is no washer
