I was at a local car show the other day and saw a steel cowl induction hood on a 65 chevelle. I have looked endlessly for one for mine and cant find one. Anybody have any ideas where I can get one??
thanks in advance.

I searched for one for mine and can't find it either. I ended up ordering a GlassTek 2" fiberglass Cowl and it is top quality. I will get pics up when it is painted and on the car.

I only want to use a steel one. I am wondering where the one came from I saw at the car show. Maye he bought it years ago when they were available? I looked at the underside of it and came to the conclusion that he didnt graft a steel scoop on.

I could never find a steel one either. I also ended up getting a glasstek hood. The quality is awesome. the only way you know mine is fiberglass is when I pop the hood.

Why don't you want a fiberglass hood?

my glasstek is a bolt-on and has a full underside. I wish you could have talked to the owner because I would like to know who has one too.

I want a steel one for many reasons. One being, I do high end body and paint for a living and have never seen a real nice glass hood yet. i havent seen the one that you guys have though. Do you use the factory hinges and springs on yours? that is the second problem, you have to remove the springs on all of the ones i have seen so far, and that is a pain to have to prop your hood up. The car I am working on has a 496" big block stroker motor with a very tall intake and every bit of room is needed. I can make a factory flat hood work, but, i will have to build an aircleaner to fit. So that is why i would like to have a real nice cowl hood.

It could have been a fabricated hood which would be why no one can find one anywhere.

A local Body shop has done a 64 a few years back. He grafted the center outer skin and the functional under frame cowl induction bracing from a REPOP Camaro hood, to the original 64 hood. So it can be done
He was also the guy who grafted the 67 SS hood on the Silver and black 64 Wagon that's for sale on Team Chevelle

I stated above that it was not a grafted hood. I was able to see the underside of it and look through all the innerstructure and see it clearly. I have been doing body and paint for 25 years and pretty much know what I am looking at. I could not find any evidence of being a pieced together hood. It had the nice factory edges like a sock hood and looking through all of the openings in the inner structure I could almost see the whole underside of the upper skin where the was no evidence of seams. The only thing i could imagine is if he found a skin the went almost al the way to the edge (within an inch or so) and seamed it all the way around there. The perimeter inch or so is the only area where i couldnt see the underside of the upper skin.

Kent I've looked for a long time for a steel hood no luck here. I went with a fiberglass hood from. unlimited products www.up22.com (http://www.up22.com) . I know that you have your heart set on steel. My hood was made to work with the stock hinge and spring it was reinforced with steel and usues the stock latch too. Good luck on your search. Try ebay

I also have a glasstek hood, actually have bought three of them, one before my accident, one after, and i bought one for my buddy who helped me paint my car, instead of just cash...any way. All were very nice quality, and as far as having to prop the hood up, no biggie, i just ordered the springs they sell and its no problem, just swap them out and you can use the stock hinges and hood latch and with their springs it stays up perfect...no complaints here...but it would be nice to have a metal hood just so i can say i actually have a metal hood:D

that is another reason why i want a metal one. I am probaly just going to get another cowl hood and whip out the plasma and the tig welder and build one!!
