: REALLY Dumb Elementary Question
REMIX Mar 31st, 09, 5:31 PM I just got my new upper/lower radiator hoses from PaceCarJeff and the upper is a little long. It needs to be cut...what do you guys use to cut hoses? I do not have a band saw. I want a nice, straight, even cut. Razor blade? Fine-tooth hacksaw?

JNorton Mar 31st, 09, 8:14 PM There are no dumb questions, just dumb looks. If it were me, I would use a nice new razor blade. Maybe mark yourslf a line around the hose so you get it nice and straight. I would think a hacksaw might leave some fuzz where the cords are cut. Then again, maybe those could be burned back with a lighter?
JJ'65 Mar 31st, 09, 8:39 PM Saw? No. I just cut them off with whatever knife is handy. If I was really interested in a square clean cut, I might take a strip of bond paper say and inch and a half wide and wrap it around.making sure the ends overlap exactly. Then uses a fine marker to trace a line along the edge of the paper all the way around. Then I'd use a sharp pocket knife with a thin narrow blade and poke it through and carefully follow the line around, blade perpendicular to the hose wall. Making sure I don't damage the inside of the hose.
Or if I was at a shop with a big shear, I'd just shear the end off at the desired point.
Never tried these, but should work OK.
Dean Mar 31st, 09, 8:45 PM A sharp-long knife.
JWagner Mar 31st, 09, 9:05 PM To mark the hose you can wrap a piece of tape around it to give you a very straight line to cut along.

Why is it to long??? Where can you buy the right hose?
70ss3964sdredonred Mar 31st, 09, 9:55 PM Snap on sells a hose cutting tool. It has a large pointed razor blade that makes a perfect cut.

The last two I bought are too long by probably 3.5" or so. Probably some anomaly with regard to my tribute car. I cannot however imagine either 1) the water neck being further back or 2) the radiator being any more forward in the vehicle. The width of my radiator is fine.
I have a ton of pics of 70 BBs and, although I have a high-rise manifold, everything appears to be where it should be in relation to the radiator outlet.

I had a buddy get mine 3yrs ago it is still fine and it fit good? We all said it repo stuff needs to be better. Why should everyone buy a cutter? Just make them right...
REMIX Apr 2nd, 09, 10:44 AM Thanks, guys. I used a piece of masking tape wrapped around as a guide and a brand new razor. Worked like a charm. Just takes a little patience.
