Are there any casting or other numbers associated with the radiator in my 1969 Chevelle? Looked at it briefly last night but could not find numbers. Not sure if it original to the car or not. If there are numbers where are they and what should they be? Answer will help me decide whether to either clean and redo this radiator or buy new. Thanks as always.

Steve,
If I remember right, there's a metal tag that has been soldered with a suffix on it. There's a part number on that tag too, but may be hard to read. Should be a Harrison radiator too and may have three or four rows of cores depending on application. I think there are pressed letters like I X into the end caps too along the side facing the motor. If yours in still in the car, you can look down the side just outside the fan shroud and see these. Post what ya find and someone here can probably help decode 'em for ya.

Hi Steve,
I looked at my car over the weekend and there's a metal tag on the passenger side, facing the engine, about half way between top and bottom. Probably the same thing Al's referring to. I could see mine had some codes on it, but they were not easily read, so I didn't try too hard. The code would probably be a little different on my car, since mine's an automatic and yours is a stick.

Ya...that it Bill! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
I think "Harrison" is pressed into one of the end caps too. I think it's the one with the filler neck. Viewing the tag is hard enough, but trying to see what those letters are in those end caps without pulling the radiator is pretty tough.

I dug this topic out of the archives ;)
Got to looking at my radiator tag last night http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/BillPritchard/tag2.jpg
It appears that this would be referred to as a 'BW' radiator. On my Body Broadcast Decode sheet (the only 'build sheet' I've found for my car), in box 121, it lists the radiator as 'BC'. I have no reason to believe the radiator was ever changed. Is it odd that the tag and the paperwork do not seem to agree?

I just checked my radiator and broadcast sheet and the radiator is a BR as noted on line 121 of the braodcast sheet. The IA and the XP on the tag are the same.

Chris,
Wow, there must be an ESP thing goin' on here. I just came back online to get your email to ask you to check your radiator and you've already done it  I figured yours and mine would be the same since they're both T400 cars. Might be a difference since you have factory A/C. Thanks for the help!!

I'm glad to be able to help. I had never checked mine before, so I was glad to see the post.
