I just bought a 65 chevelle, Im not sure what it is. It has a 12 bolt rear, 65 date coded, it has a factory tach, it was a standard car. The vin has me puzzled, I have checked beaumonts and chevelles, and the vin is not in any of them. Can anyone let me know what this vin belongs to?

Well, I guess that looked like a stupid question then, graemlins/clonk.gif I got the chevrolet by numbers book, and it goes from 65 to 69, never thought to go back a year. did these cars come with 12 bolt rears? did they come with factory tach?

What does the trim tag on the fire wall say?
Yes, You could get a Tach in 64/65, It replaced the clock in the dash and the clock would be on top of dash.
You could get a 12 bolt in 65 but not in 64.
I have a 12 bolt in my 64 dated Nov 65, It came out of a 66.
I have a friend that has a 64 Elky, He used a 65 wagon for a parts car to rebuild it. The only way you can tell its a 64 is by the Vin & Trim Tag.

If you just bought it, the guy that sold it to you did so illegally and you may never get it registered.

funny part about the registration is, the car was just registered as a 65 chevrolet. Im suprised they did not catch it down at Dept. of motor vehicles. as far as the rear, it was casted J204, and stamped CF1202. now the worst part about the car is, it has no trim tag, and on the firewall where it is suppose to be, there is no holes from where it would be rivited

You are dealing with bureaucracy, all they care about is your money. Did the require an inspection? The responsibility is on you to know what you are buying. Even with the title and registration its not for the car you are driving apparently and whats more your insurance may not valid because of this. If you get pulled by the law or involved in a accident, it will be discovered and you will be the one to explain it. I would not drive it till you straighten this out.

I would go back to who sold you the car and demand every penny you paid for it back. If not go see the cops or a lawyer and tell them about this apparently illegal vehicle/sale. Selling something and misrepresenting what it is called fraud and deceit.
