My brother in law has a 46 or so chevy pick up truck street rod as well as an early 40's coupe. Both nice street rods that get driven regularly. He came in last night telling me about going to some guys house to talk to him about some old cars he used to have. The guy told him he had 2 43 chevy's, 1 2 door and 1 4 door. Winds up one of them is almost in running condition with a whole pile of new parts and new wood installed. He more or less makes him take both of them for $2500. Sicne he didn't have enough room to store both of them with out one of his completed cars sitting out side he talks a body man he knows into leting him store one in his shop. Winds up the body man buys the worse one of the 2 for almost what he paid for both of them plus agrees to do the body work onthe other one and get it in primer! This guy always falls in a pile and comes out smelling like a rose.

Sounds like a good deal. I'm pretty sure there is no such thing as a 1943 Chevy, however.
That was in the midst of WWII, and I believe automobile production was shut down at that time to make way for war materiel production.

I was wrong on the year. They are older than that. You see a lot of them made into rat rods. The pillars are straight up and down and the roof has a canvas sheet that goes over the hole in the top. One of them came with new canvas as well.

they didn't stop making cars, that was a myth. now that they weren't readily available to the public, was true, chevy and plymouth made plenty of cars for the armed forces, diplomats etc. there are lots of people who collect these odd balls. some were just rebadged 42's, and some were unique design, but there were some cars, and many many trucks made during the war years....

If that was me,the bodymans check would bounce. The one he painted would get hit and totaled by an uninsured driver. When I call my insurance company I find out they lost my application and a new one was inthe mail.Thats the kind of luck I have.

I once owned a '42 Chevy. There were lots of repair parts available, but none of them were chrome plated as in the early civilian models. Stuff like grilles and turn signal lamps were all primered.
