I have a couple questions regarding installing 4 speed muncie in truck bell housing.I have heard the truck bell housing has a larger diameter center hole for the trans, therefore an adappter is needed to center tranny. What if it was installed with out adapter?Would tranny mounting bolts center tranny anyway? What would be the downside of running a 12 inch clutch setup in a car? These questions actually refer to a friends car,he installed this years ago and it works but there is a vibration issue.Wondering if this could have something to do with it?Thanks:beers:

The mounting holes do not center the transmission to the crank. They merely hold the transmission to the housing. The large hole in the bell housing mates with the bearing retainer to properly align the trans and crank. Improper alignment can cause a variety of issues, especially with newer transmissions like the Tremec TKO. Make sure you use a bell housing with the correct hole size that mates with your transmission.
Most 12 inch clutches will bolt to a 14" flywheel and can be used however you must be careful because a 12" clutch (depending on manufacturer) may require more pedal travel that your vehicles linkage may not be capable of providing.

Do a search for the guy that sells the alignment ring b/c I've posted a bunch about this on the Boards.

You have two options-------------------one of them is NOT to install the Muncie in the truck housing without some method of centering the tranny with the crank!
First, you can buy an adapter ring to fill the gap. If you do this, I would STRONGLY recommend that you go to the hardware store and buy three 8-32 Allen head set screws, then drill/tap the adapter ring so that you can firmly secure the ring to the front bearing retainer of the Muncie.

The second method is to buy one of the recently available front bearing retainers for a Muncie that is made to fit the larger hole of a truck housing.
