Hi everyone, my daughter is having back surgery tomorrow and I'd appreciate any thoughts and prayers in our direction. Our children have never had surgery, so this is a new experience for everyone. The surgery is scheduled to last 5-6 hours and we have to be at the hospital by 6:15 a.m. for 7:30 surgery, so it's going to be a long, long day.

Thanks guys! :)

You got it. My son went through a surgery at 10 months that was about 3 hours. Nothing too serious, but more preventative. Still scary as hell for us. It all worked out real good and he recovered well. Hopeing for the same for you.

Rachael. I'll keep her in my thoughts tomorrow......
My daughter needed an emergency Appendectomy a few years back, So I know how scary it can be when there's nothing you can do but wait....2 1/2 hrs of worry then the good news.... Just try to remember that she will be in very good hands..

Tell her the whole TEAM will be wishing her well and I'll be looking forward to getting home tomorrow and reading "all went well"....

I don't know what she is having done but my fusion at two levels with a laminectomy was around 9 hours. Hopefully hers is not as involved.
The most any of ours had was tonsils and one son had a screw put in his hip when he was 12 as the femur head had come loose at the growth plate from a hit in Pee Wee Football.
It is alway stressing when one of your kids has surgery of any kind.

We will put her in our prayers tonight and tomorrow for sure Rachael!:)

My daughter has severe scoliosis and will have stainless steel rods inserted on each side of her spine to correct it, it's a form of spinal fusion. I really, really appreciate all the thoughts and prayers and will update you as soon as I can.

Thanks guys! Surgery went well, no problems at all, so far and it hopefully stays that way. She was in a lot of pain right after surgery as the epidural wasn't working, but we fixed that and she's resting well now. On to recovery now, which can be just as hard!

She'll be in the hospital until at least the weekend... She's in major pain right now and the docs are having a hard time managing it. It's very hard to see your child in pain and know you can't do anything about it. I stayed with her last night but came home tonight to get a good nights sleep and shower. They gave her some good meds right before we left, she was drifting off to hopefully a good nights sleep.

I had two back surgeries, and from what I experienced, I was in a lot of pain for about 48 hours. After that period, the pain subsided a bunch. Her surgical incision was probably much longer than mine. To put those rods in, they have to make an incision top to bottom. I've seen it done. Hang in there, her pain will subside in a couple days.
