Brian,
I hope someone smarter than me will jump in and fix your problem.

Here’s a thought. Does or did your Monty have AC? In some years, a relay would energize and engage the AC compressor on shutdown, this would prevent the engine from dieseling when shut off. After a few seconds, the relay would de-energize. Is it possible somebody got some wires crossed? Does the heater work ok when the car is running? Does the AC work?

Many smart people out there, maybe some ones seen this before.

Yes the car has factory AC, but i removed the compressor and hoses....I havent replaced the compressor (rusted really badly) yet, I guess once i replace the compressor and hook up the lines this problem might go away............thanks for your help though.......the heater works only on the highest setting......I checked out the plug for the heater that runs into the fire wall. The plug has three connectors that connect to a 3 prong wire spring looking gadget inside the firewall.

I also noticed that there was a burnout or short on that particular heater plug because the middle connector was totally burnt and corroded. I need to replace the middle connector to get my heater to function on the lower settings....i replaced the blower motor this winter as well......so once i repair those things maybe this problem will go away????
