i just got 2 454's- one complete with a busted rod, and a reman shorblock.
the intake on the complete engine is aluminum and has all GM markings- even the "snowflake" in front of the carb pad. part number (or casting number) behind the carb is 6269318, and it has a dual carb pattern, with the spread bore stud holes set back about 1/2" from the square bore stud holes. looks like a big oval port intake, but maybe rectangular.
it looks pretty tall- i'd say an inch or 2 taller than a cast iron 396 manifold i've got.
what's it from , is it any good, and what's it worth?

It should be a rect port intake off a newer crate motor.

how much newer of a crate motor would it be on? on a site with BB intake casting numbers, all it said was it was a 72 454 intake, but no HP rating or application.
the engine is was on came up as a 78-90 454 with 86-88 peanut port heads on it, so i'm kind of certain the intake wasn't original to the engine. it was held on by some 12 point stainless intake bolts. wonder how it ran with the ports in the heads only about 1/2 as tall as the ports in the intake? hell, i won't complain- i paid $500 for that engine AND a reman 454 shortblock that's never been started.

It's a late 80s, early 90's era Mercury Marine rectangle port intake. Should have a bronze inlay for the water crossover and no provision for a heater core hose fitting. I run one on my 454 and I believe Gene has one as well. Mercury Marine used these on their boat engines.
