I'm trying to find the correct Flywheel Inspection Cover for this bellhousing and need help identifying it. The number on the bellhousing is: GM 460486. Can anyone tell me what this came off of? Thanks in advance

I believe that is a truck bellhousing for 12" clutch. Not a car bellhousing. This post has photos of how to identify.

Thanks Shooter
Tell me this, will this bellhousing if it is a truck, fit on a car?

Truck bellhousings will not work with passenger car transmissions due to the difference in pilot diameters.

John,
Everything will PHYSICALLY bolt together. BUT, the big problem, as David mentions above, is that the hole in the truck housing is too big for the front bearing retainer on a car tranny. This is critical, because the proper mating of the tranny/housing is what centers and stabilizes the tranny to assure the tranny input is in line with the crank centerline.

thanks for the info but, my friend that works on my car and I checked the bellhousing before i bought it being that the original was cracked and it appeared to be exactly the same in every detail including the hole. the flywheel insp. cover was held on by one or two bolts. We believe the previous owner may have had a similar b-housing and it did'nt have any trouble with the tranny. It was noticed because I had a new engine built and had to take this stuff apart and it was picked up then. I just want to do the right thing when reassembling. After all the money spent on this project. Thanks again graemlins/beers.gif graemlins/thumbsup.gif

John,
If the housing is a 460486, that is the casting number for a truck housing, which has a hole that is about 5 1/8in diameter. Is that what you have, and is that the size of the hole? If so, that hole is too big for a tranny such as a Muncie. The outside diameter of the bearing retainer for a 4sp, such as a Muncie, is 4 5/8in.
