Will a AFB carb work with a stock 1970 4-barrel Q-jet aircleaner???

It will if you have an AFB with a 5 1/8" top. The real early AFB's (mainly 63 and earlier) were 4 1/4", the later ones (after 63 or so) are 5 1/8".

My Father-in-Law bought a '77 TA with a Pontiac 400. Some spit-for-brains idiot had put an AFB on the engine before he bought it.

The AFB fuel inlet is at the rear, and high up on the carb. This moron decided it would be a good idea to cut a hole in the air cleaner base to clear the fuel inlet.

The hole is on the CLEAN AIR side of the filter.

Some folks need to have their fingers broken with their own wrenches.

The important thing here is that NO, the air cleaner housing may not clear the AFB without rework. All depends on how the air cleaner housing is stamped/formed.

if the fuel inlet doesn't clear, Edelbrock has a couple of options for you- either a low profile fitting that you hook a hose to, or a low profile fitting with a line that goes to the front of the carb to about the same location as most Holley dual inlet fuel lines go. if you have a stock quadrajet line, then you can easily cut that and hook it up to the Edelbrock line. and it comes with a filter, too.
