: Camaro VIN number question

Sorry I know this is a non chevelle question but my son just bought his first new car and it is a 91 RS Camaro.

My son is away at college so my wife took care of the insurance work for it, off of the VIN number.

My insurance agent listed it as a Z-28 because of the VIN number. A Z-28 has a higher premium cost. Is this insurance agent trying to pull something off here? Does the Vin number tell the difference between a RS and a Z-28?

Something is wrong here and I want to know what I am talking about when I call him today, as the car is a RS.

Thanks Bill

Someone at the sister site, Camaros.net (http://www.camaros.net/) would probably know.

Welll the Z28 was the only 1991 Camaro to come with a 350 engine..

Here is a Site (http://www.camaro3rdgen.20m.com/1991.html) to check out.

Check the 8th digit in the VIN, if its an 8 its a 350 Z28 engine.

E is s 305 (5.0L)

According to info I have, E is the code for a non-Z28 engine. Maybe the agent got the E confused with an 8 and thats the problem or else you did?

91 RS M5,A4 LO3 V8 9.3:1 5.0 (305) 170@4000 255@2400 TBI 3.08 ---- 2.73 ----

91 Z28 M5,A4 LB9 V8 9.3:1 5.0 (305) 205@4200 285@3200 TPI 3.08 ---- 2.73 ----
91 Z28 M5 LB9 V8 9.3:1 5.0 (305) 230@4200 300@3200 TPI ---- 3.42 ---- ----
91 Z28 A4 L98 V8 9.3:1 5.7 (350) 245@4400 345@3200 TPI ---- ---- ---- 3.23

Engine codes: (8th digit of VIN)

H LG4
7 LU5
E L03
G L69
F LB9
8 L98

My 96 camaro is a regular V6 (non-RS) but the VIN and title reads "Camaro RS" I wonder if i am paying more because of this? :(
