just finished cleaning the chevelle today after a drive through Napa Valley this morning.

So the wife comes outside says she needs to go to the store, and she would like to take the chevelle. :noway: I told her never going to happen.
She just looked at me and walked away. :D

I told her she has her own vehicle and a nice one at that.

just thought i would share

My wife drives mine all the time. But it's beat up, rusty, and doesn't have enough horsepower to get her in trouble...

I don't have a significant other but if I did, I doubt she'd even wanna drive it.

Mine wouldn't want to drive it, I think she'd be scared. She'll gladly stick to her boring honda cr-v and I don't have a problem with that!

She won't even drive my bone stock 71 4-spd K-20 pickup.

I always ask Maureen if she wants to take mine for a spin. Knowing how much my car means to me,she is too scared something would happen. But thats ok with me!

My wife grew up on 4 speeds. She can drive it when ever she wants to. Then again, she wouldn't take it shopping. We have our regular cars that can take that beating.

Same here. My wife drove grain trucks on the farm. She can drive mine anytime she wants. She even drove my S/ST car, once. :D

Karen is scared to death of mine....she now understands true horsepower and says fugettaboutit!....She knows how I am about my car...but she also is afraid of speed/torque...lucky me I guess! That's why I am building her a mild 4 door 65! That she says she can handle for a beach cruiser!

Back when I got the '68, it had 4.10s in it, and the first time my wife got behind the wheel ( I had to start it, as she'd never driven anything with a carb. ) She banged her neck up pretty bad, chiropractor visits and everything, from her neck hitting the top of the seat the first time she 'launched' it. I just remember her saying "Is it supposed to 'jump' like that?" Also, she is a little shorter (5' 2") and the top of the seat was in a really bad spot for her.

My wife drove our's for years back in the day. She hasn't asked to drive it since we got it back on the road a few months ago.
I haven't offered....but when she asks, I will let her.

Anne had never drove White Lightning but she has drove HER own '70 Sedan numerous times...including up to CB '08 and back home.
And has drove other Chevelles and Corvettes we've had in the past.
Manual tranny...not a problem. She's owned a couple Miatas too.

The 66 is not ready to drive yet----won't be for awhile.
Wish I could get her interested in the 59---but she needs to get the Ranger down first.
She can drive the Ranger---just not comfortable in it.
She won't go near the ol' Dodge

Once she is okay with the Ranger----she can drive the 59 anywhere she wants---same as the 66

I'd let my wife drive mine...maybe. She's a really good driver, but she knows better than to ask me to drive it. I think she figures that would be the one time something would happen and that I be really ticked about it. She is right.

My wife can drive my car anytime she likes, but she'd rather drive her own......'72 Nova SS benchseat, 4spd, #'s car. She learned to drive on a stick and would rather drive the same. However, her d-d is mini-Blazer. Gotta love those "stick shift" girls!

Kathy is welcome to drive mine anytime, but all she has ever done is pull them out of the garage and back in. She has her own dirt bike and knows how to take a quadrajet apart. No issues here. She prefers to ride while I'm driving. All she ask is let her know when I'm going to get down on it so she won't spill her drink.

YES!! My wife has driven it more then once. The 1st time I asked her to drive it. Was because You don't know what your car looks like or sounds like. Going down the road. So I asked her to drive it past the house a few times when I 1st got it. Then another time I ask her to drive it. So I could take some pictures of it going down the road. My daughter & my son both told me No. Are you kidding Dad? I said no go ahead. They both said NO WAY. if something happened to it. They would never feel right about it. I said no thats ok. Just hand over your check books LOL.....Rick

My wife has driven mine once. She's pretty small so not seeing all the way around the car was an issue for her, and she doesn't like the ratchet shifter for some reason. She drives the b'jesus out of our other vehicles.

I gladly let my wife drive mine... But she won't even sit in it... She'll only listen to me talk cars for a few minutes before nodding off... ;)

But my mother on the other hand... She also "grew up on 4-speeds" learned to drive in a 4-speed corvette (1959). Dad was a "racer" at heart and taught her well...

When I was in High School, I had to drive my mom across town to pick up her vehicle, she asked if she could drive, so I said okay... I had two friends in the back seat that didn't realize that my mom could drive like that... She proceeded to bang a few gears, and the look on my buddies faces was priceless, they never expected a parent to drive like that (she really didn't go over the speed limit much, just got up there quickly...).

mine does if she has to. she doesn't liketo though. she says it is too obnoxious and rattles her brains. I can see that. fwiw her daily driver is a pretty burly lifted '71 bronco with a stick (converted to floor shifter from 3 on the tree). she also says it feels like a go cart. then again you almost need a step ladder to get in hers. it does feel wierd switching between the 2. when i try to taunt her with ford/chevy jokes... she doesn't even get it. she just jokes about everyone that drives new cars instead. i married well.

Jackie likes to drive a 4-speed and they all half hers too. Besides if she drives, it's easier to sit in the passenger seat and drink a beer.

Back in the day she drove mine every once in ahwile. She's allways driven late model 4 bangers that need the gas pedal to be pushed an inch or 10 before the motor does something. She never really got use to the type of throttle response where all you do is "think" about pushing the pedal & suddenly you're passing the car in front of you...

I think Nancy has driven mine once. I'd let her drive it if she wanted to, but I don't like the way she drives. When the older kids lived with us I told them the only time they could drive the Chevelle was if the house was on fire they could back it out of the garage.

It's no mine but ours. She knows the rules, drive it like you stole it, but no parking in lots, etc. She probably loves it as much as I do. After 35 years of marriage, you gotta have something in common!

Back when I had my '68 Chevelle, I'd let my wife drive it whenever she wanted, but that wasn't very often. 396/470HP, 4 speed and a posi rear. I think it scared her. Current project is a 427/4speed/posi '69 Camaro, and she'll probably drive it more than me when it's done. The 427 isn't as rowdy as the 396 was, though. Manual transmissions don't scare her. It's not uncommon to see her out on one of the tractors, and she runs the combine some in the fall. She can handle them just fine. Cars can be repaired/replaced. Good wives can't.

Only other people that have every driven my car are my brother for a bit, and believe it or not my grandmother. Had some surgery and had to get my car home from the hospital, i was high as a kite on painkillers, so grandma got it for me. Wasn't worried about it one bit though, grandma learned to drive when she could reach the pedals. She was the oldest child from an Oklahoma farm family with no boys... So she was the oldest son. She had no problems at all driving it, and was totally comfortable, lol.

I have no problem with my wife driving the Chevelle, she does not however care to drive the Sprint. She thinks the Sprint is too big, I haven't the heart to tell her they both have the same wheelbase lol.

My wife has driven our Chevelle only in the neighborhood, as part of the year ritual of giving her 4 speed lessons. She gets through 3rd, but vows she will never take into traffic. I hope to break her of the fear - some day, becuase she says if it was an automatic - she would have a lot more fun.

I already posted, stating that my wife has driven the car once. I saw, I think it was Daniel above said that his grandmother drove his home from the hospital. That reminded me of this, and I feel like divulging. The last time my mother was down to visit, she drove my car, which used to belong to my father (and her). It was the first thing she wanted to do when she got here, look at it, see if I was keeping it clean, etc...she even pulled the dipstick and gave it a sniff. I gave her the keys and we went for a ride. She was real cool, driving very mellow, and as we got to a T-intersection well away from town, she looked all around, and in a matter of two or three seconds had spun a complete 360 and a quarter and took off down the road. :D
