: Beaumonts In Chevelle World
MalibuMike70 May 3rd, 04, 9:41 PM In the newest Chevelle World there are a pair of Beaumonts starting on page 18. On page 19 the Butternut Yellow has a set of shallow derby style hubcaps, what is printed on them? I know what my chevelle has but these are different. any guesses? graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I can't read it :( http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/temp_sd396_wheel.jpg
Don_Lightfoot May 3rd, 04, 10:58 PM I would have to say that Dean is right with "disc brakes". Will have to talk to my pal Bill who owns these cars to find out for sure.
Haven't got my issue yet :( and have been looking forward to these features from our Northern Chevelle Gathering at the Falls.
MalibuMike70 May 4th, 04, 8:14 PM Dean that is the correct pic.
Dean & Don
Is this "factory correct" for this car? I was wondering because nothing on the car says chevy (ie. the caps would have said chevy motor div) There are no emblems on the header panel interior or the engine compartment. I never noticed before that these cars are void of all mention of chevy.
what does the wire wheel caps on the blue car say?
I think I will go with Don's spelling on the "disc brakes" ;)
jfkheat May 4th, 04, 9:53 PM These cars are not Chevys. They were built by General Motors of Canada and sold through Pontiac dealers. They are considered Pontiacs but Pontiac is not on the car anywhere. Pontiac is also never mentioned in the owners manual or sales brochures. I own a 68 Beaumont SD396. My car has the same wheels as the ones pictures but there is nothing on the center caps. These wheels are not original to my car. Where can I get a copy of that magazine?
James
Don_Lightfoot May 4th, 04, 10:59 PM BTW, Bill has not responded to my email yet :(
CDN SS May 4th, 04, 11:37 PM Don if my memory still good didn't the Cdn built Pontiacs/ Beaumonts say "General Motors" on those centers .... interesting to see what Bill confirms
Peter F. May 5th, 04, 12:06 AM Don't know with those but the full wheel covers that came on my 68 have Pontiac written in the centre of them. The car did come with option P01 - Wheel Trim Cover so I'd suspect they are origional.
Only other things I see on the car that indicate Pontiac is the front grill emblem and steering wheel (I think but I need to look again) have what looks like the Pontiac upside down triangle emblem in them.
Peter
jfkheat May 5th, 04, 6:56 AM The 68 Beaumont front grill emblem is similar to the Pontiac emblem but it has the Canadian maple leaves in it. The steering wheel also has the maple leaves in the center emblem. I have a set of Beaumont hubcaps. The center of them is like the front grill emblem. Here is what the grill emblem looks like.

MalibuMike70 May 5th, 04, 1:57 PM I did not know that, that being, I didn't realize they{Beaumonts} were sold at Pontiac dealerships. I see said the blind man. Am I correct in assuming the "SD" stood for Super Duty?
copy of that magazine<<< Chevelle World is a monthly mag. as part of A.E.C.S. [American Chevelle Enthuslasts Society] memebership package. I would write or phone Chuck Hanson[Prez.] and speak with him. There is a link to the ACES site on team chevelle's homepage or his phone number is 615 773-ACES. Hes a nice guy, plus he knows a thing or two about chevelles.
THANKS Don, for asking your friend about his car. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
blumont May 5th, 04, 2:04 PM My 65 has the same emblem on the grill and steering wheel. SD stands for Sport Deluxe
jfkheat May 5th, 04, 5:23 PM The 68 Beaumont SD like the yellow one pictured is a fairly rare car. There were only 702 built. They all came with either 325 or 350 HP 396s. There were only sixty five 68 SD convertibles built. The Bill that Don mentioned earlier owns three 68 Beaumont SDs, 1 hardtop and 2 convertibles. I would love to find one of those.
James
Correction; Chevelle World is a by-monthly magazine.

CDN2PLS2 May 5th, 04, 6:51 PM The Beaumont centers only said something if they had discs. The N95 wires had the same blank center in '68.I know of quite a few SDz

Thanks, James
CDN2PLS2 May 5th, 04, 8:50 PM A friend of mine had a set.Let me try to remember who it was. Then I'll call him.
jfkheat May 5th, 04, 9:25 PM Thank you. I don't know if you remember who I am. We exchanged GM of Canada paperwork on my car and your brother's car last year.

I know where another one is sitting and if I can talk him into actually selling it I'll take it home too. It's complicated because it's not sitting at the owners place, it's sitting at a place where the owner owes the guy money. Unfortunately both of them are rough but I like building as much as driving, maybe more.
Mine is getting 4 wheel disks, Tall spindles, some home built suspension parts and a LT1 with 4L60E.
Peter
CDN2PLS2 May 6th, 04, 6:05 PM Of course I remember who you are.I'll start making calls tonite.
Dirkus May 7th, 04, 11:13 PM I have some sets of those centre caps myself. Some say "Chevrolet motor division disc brakes", others say "Chevrolet motor division". Getting back to the picture...I have some that just have the black Pontiac dot in the middle with zero writing on them. I've had them since the mid 80's so I seriously doubt they were any kind of repro...
CDN2PLS2 May 8th, 04, 6:02 PM I talked to him today and he sold them.If you get a good set of wires, you would only have to find the unique Canadian centers.
jfkheat May 8th, 04, 10:31 PM Thank you for checking for me. I'll find a set one of these days.

http://chevelles.com/aces/index.shtml I thought it was bimonthly? Lately it has been more like whenever. Lots going on this year, huh? graemlins/waving.gif
Don_Lightfoot May 10th, 04, 3:41 PM Bill finally got back to me, the caps say "Disc Brakes".
My Beaumont parts catalogue, revised March 1972 edition, shows the part #s for the caps. Buried within the part #s the story can be told.
# 3401977 is the insert for 1967 disk brake center caps (probably says ‘disc brakes’; we need to cross-reference this with the Chevrolet part #s to be certain of this)
#3401978 is the insert for 1967-69 wire wheel covers AND 1968-69 Rally Wheels (blank with concentric rings).
The 1967-style Rally Wheel cap itself (not the center medallion) was also used on Beaumonts through 1969; plus full size Canadian Pontiacs and the Nova-based Acadians through 1970.
For Chevelles and other Chevies by comparison, the center medallion that says ‘Chevrolet Motor Division’ would have been used on the wire caps 1967-69 (dealer installed through ’71).
