I am having an exhaust system built for my '71 SS clone tomorrow and need to tell the guy where the exhaust tips should exit the car. I figured I could find this info easily here but haven't been able to so far.

Can someone tell me where the chrome SS exhaust tips should be? How far should the tips should stick out past the lower valance? How far in or out are they (relative the taillights, or jack points on the rear bumper)?

There are a ton of threads about this issue. The correct answer seems to be 2.44 inches. I just put mine on and I just eyeballed them to about 3 inches.

OK, so the exhaust tips should extend about 2.5" past where they pass under the rear valance. I am guessing about 0.5" below the valance. Are they centered on the line separating the quarter panel and trunk, or between the tail lights?
