: Car Wash Rant.....
Cable Mar 26th, 09, 8:38 PM Hey guys, I was wondering if any of you guys know which fuse controls my 2007 Dodge Charger R/T driver power seat? I know you are asking why... The reason is I use my Charger for work and have a monthly car wash pass which I use almost daily due to the car getting dirty from driving a lot.
Anyway, a HUGE pet-peave of mine is having to re-adjust my seat if someone plays with it. Despite my best effort to keep the car wash guys from playing with it, they still do even though I've asked, pleated, and even created a sign that I attach to the steering wheel covering the air bag stating "Please do not adjust seat" in both english and spanish they still mess with the adjustments.
It wouldn't be a big deal if they only adjusted the front-rear, but they change EVERYTHING which makes no sense to me since they only drive it a total of 50 yards at most and everyone of them is my height.
So, in order to avoid the whole issue with them I figured I would just elimitate the whole adjustability option for them by removing the fuse that controls the fuction of the seat. I tried to just unplug the seat from the harness under the seat, but its too hard for me to reach on a daily basis.
So guys, which fuse is it or if you have another idea that's just as fast and easy?
I AM NOT INTERESTED IN ANY OPINIONS EXCEPT OF WAYS TO DISABLE THE POWER SEAT ON A TEMP BASIS. IF YOU DON'T HAVE A HELPFUL SUGGESTION PERTAINING TO MY EXACT QUESTION, KEEP IT TO YOURSELF. THANKS.

maybe they have to adjust it to touch the pedals...
you wouldnt want a dent???
BlueSS454 Mar 26th, 09, 9:14 PM Unplug the harness to it under the seat.

It's too difficult for him to do.
dscabra Mar 26th, 09, 10:05 PM I know this doesn't help solve your problem, but one of my favorite features on my wife's car is the memory feature that adjusts the seat, steering wheel and mirrors based on which key fob is used to unlock the car. When she uses her fob, everything adjusts to her settings and when I use my fob, I get my settings. There are also three memory buttons on the door panel that can be used to do the same thing.

As stated in my original post....
...and everyone of them is my height.
I already said I wouldn't mind if they just adjusted the seats front to rear. But why do they need to adjust the seat back, lumbar, seat height, seat pitch, etc? The pedals are adjustable too, easily done, and I wouldn't have any problem with that either. I have even adjusted them to the highest setting just incase the guy couldn't reach to no avail.
Unplug the harness to it under the seat.
I'd post a pic if I could, but the seat is just about flush with the floor. In order to reach the harness the seat has to be in the forward most position which wouldn't do me much good since unplugging the harness would leave the seat in that position.
Besides, I don't want to disable that feature for any time longer than the time spend getting it washed (hence: just pulling the fuse). My wife also drives the car, but only adjusts the front to rear settings and the pedal height and she's only 5'2"!!

That would help things for sure....
novaderrik Mar 26th, 09, 11:53 PM you could wash the car yourself.
Cable Mar 27th, 09, 12:00 AM you could wash the car yourself.
Sure, I'll get right on that except I work 6 days a week, 12 to 16 hours per day, even now I am typing this on my phone.
This is why I pay a monthly service so I don't have to wash it, its as simple as that. Thanks anyway.
72ElCamino Mar 27th, 09, 12:08 AM I was putting new headlights in my friend jetta the other day and the book that came with his car (manual) listed what each fuse controlled. Perhaps your manual would do the same thing?

Yeah, I tried that too. Apparently Dodge wants you to bring them the car for any and/or everything these days so all they print in the manual is things like when you should bring the car to them when something doesn't work, breaks, or needs an oil change. They'd probably charge $10 for a fuse too!!
Seriously, that was a good idea dude. Thanks for suggesting it.
72ElCamino Mar 27th, 09, 12:19 AM well that is completely retarded. sooo like when one day your power window stops working you just have to start pulling fuses to see if one is burnt out? stupid move on Dodges part. Nothing printed on the underside of the fuse box lid either I take it?

I completely agree. The only thing printed on the underside of the fuse box lid is a diagram of the fuse arrangement with the amp ratings for each fuse and/or relay. That's it. I guess its a good thing I have an unlimited/lifetime warranty on the drivetrain and a 10 year/100k mile warranty on everything else.
arohed Mar 27th, 09, 12:39 AM If the cats at the car wash wipe down the interior of the car, they may be wiping over your seat controls. They may not be out to get you. Or...they may just be out to get you!;)
sschevellefan Mar 27th, 09, 12:53 AM Once you actually reach the harness is it long enough to maybe pull it out a bit to the side so that when you put the seat where you wan tit you can reach it? Another option and I know you have limited time is to pull each fuse untill you hit theone that controls the seat. It`s probably a accesory fuse if they are labled.
novaderrik Mar 27th, 09, 1:04 AM well, since you wouldn't take my first suggestion- then maybe give this one a try..
next time you go in, tell them in no uncertain terms that your seat better be where you left it when you get it back.
if it's not, raise hell with management.
unless you only have time to complain about it on the internet..
Alan Mar 27th, 09, 1:17 AM exterior wash only. you drive through, they wash, they dry, you drive away. they never enter your vehicle.
silly that Dodge doesn't label what each fuse is for in the fuse box.
justkyle Mar 27th, 09, 1:25 AM If you have a lunch break and are near a library, you can go in and use AllData for free. You should be able to find a fuse diagram there.

I think they are too stupid or lazy to bother to read my sign and then decide to move the seat and hit every button without looking to find the correct one.
Or they are out to get me....

Been there, done that. Although it might be more helpful if the manager(s) spoke anything better than broken English (if any at all).
Because of this, after my contract membership is up I am not renewing (expires on 1/1/2010).
exterior wash only. you drive through, they wash, they dry, you drive away. they never enter your vehicle.
Yup, I tried doing that too, but they cite insurance reasons why they can't allow me to drive the car through the wash cycle.

Good idea, thanks!!
Hot66ss Mar 27th, 09, 3:10 AM Cable, I have all data and I searched to the best of my ability. After looking at the wiring of the car for 20 minutes I gave up, I could not pin point any particular fuse or relay for that, it must be on a large circuit.

Figures. Thanks anyway Tom.
Hot66ss Mar 27th, 09, 3:19 AM cable my suggestion is find the power wire to the power seat switch and put a small inline toggle inline tucked away. Then just turn the switch off when you head to the car wash, and back on when you leave

I thought about that. My only concern is with Dodge voiding the warranty on anything they can, I see an electric motor going out sometime in the future and Dodge not warranting it because of the toggle.
However it might be worth it just to avoid the hassle with the car wash....
CHELKAMINO Mar 27th, 09, 6:25 AM Next time order your car without power seats:D
Xtreme70SS396 Mar 27th, 09, 8:26 AM I checked the SRT forums, saw fuseboxes that were labelled for major items, but didn't see the power seats one.
However, instead of pulling the fuse all the time - install a hidden switch instead that shuts off the power to the seats. Yes, it will take a little more work initially but should more than make up for it with daily washes.
I'd worry about working the contacts loose in the fuse box re-seating that fuse every day.
1964chevelles Mar 27th, 09, 9:18 AM If your seats work at all times, the car washer may be moving them when he wipes down the interior. Jim
69malibu3speed Mar 27th, 09, 9:36 AM I think they were about ready to leave the seat alone until they saw your sign.......now they purposely screw it up to the max.
grandsport Mar 27th, 09, 9:39 AM Not to be smart,I wish that was one of the things I had to worry about!
DaleM Mar 27th, 09, 10:03 AM It could be too that by the very nature of wiping down the interior they simply wipe over any electrical controls for adjustment, radio, etc. Maybe?
SS427Rick Mar 27th, 09, 10:19 AM Poor guy. And I thought I had problems. Now I realize there is always someone out there who is worse off than yourself.
crazychevelleman Mar 27th, 09, 10:29 AM Guys, you are thinking this thrue too hard. Use the K.I.S.S. theory! "Keep it super simple". I have supplied a pic of the solution below. You can also use a metal bucket as well. Just go to home depot purchase the metal pails and fashion a bracket to the floor or weld it in, have the wife sew a stylish cushin and BAM! there it is, your seat wont move due to tampeting. you can also add tacs to the cushion so the guys at the carwash will have a really fun 50ft of driving. Hope this helps l:)

They are a standard feature on the R/T models....

I didn't create the sign until after 100+ washes. Regardless, your prob right.
K_Janisch Mar 27th, 09, 12:47 PM Cable...you need to post this to the guys on
http://www.lxforums.com/board/index.php?
I'm sure someone there will be able to help. Since a lot of the site is about mods...there is also lots of legal discussion regarding what would void a warranty. The suggesion for a on/off switch is a good one.
OrrieG Mar 27th, 09, 1:37 PM SINCE YOU HOLLER'D I FEEL AN URGE TO REPLY. Handy book in the glove box, labeled Owners Manual. Index in the back will point you to the section that lists where the fuse box is. Fuse box lid on new cars is labeled, look for one that lists the seat or power accessories. Manual should list multiple uses on each fuse. I googled to see if I could help and found that the Charger guys are giving you the same information us Chevy guys so I guess you will just have to remain frustrated or deal with it. I would have thought such a fancy car would have a seat memory feature like those foriegn rigs?
novaderrik Mar 27th, 09, 1:41 PM i don't even fully understand this concept of letting someone else wash your car- usually, i pull up to the thing, put my money in, and drive the car in and watch the cool suds and pretend i'm in a hurricane or something.
when it's done, i go for a short drive to blow the water off.
every once in a while, i go to the coin op car wash with the wands (the same one that is really awesome for cleaning greasy engine parts) and get in the door jambs and under the hood. occasionally, i use this thing at home called a "shop vac" in conjunction with something called "paper towels, "glass cleaner" and "Armor All" to to clean out the interior.
Alan Mar 27th, 09, 1:46 PM exterior wash only. you drive through, they wash, they dry, you drive away. they never enter your vehicle.

Here in Fresno, they have "100% hand wash" car washes where you pay $6 or $7. You drive (sit) in car, they wash, they dry, you boogy out when done. That would solve your problem, but it looks like your contract doesn't end at the existing car wash until next January.

Bill Rose Mar 27th, 09, 4:07 PM I'd tell the car wash owner what your needs are. Tell him, if his guys move the seat again, you're taking it somewhere else to be cleaned. There's no reason to move the seat except maybe back/forward. I take my wifes car thru once a week, and they move it all the way up, but it's easy for me, cause I just move it all the back, otherwise I can't even get into the car.
Another thought, keep a roll of masking tape in the car. Put a couple layers of tape over the buttons. Maybe that will get through to them!

I guess I can't help you with that Derrik.
Its okay though, there are lots of things I don't fully understand either. For instance: I can't understand how we ended up with a socialist as our President.
Q-ship Mar 28th, 09, 5:12 AM Cable, the power seats would run off a circuit breaker not a fuse, seat uses way to much power for even a 40 amp fuse. In a GM vehicle they are usually on the fuse panel in the dash or under the dash, they look like a small silver box about 3/8" X 1". A hidden toggle would work too, and I bet it is the wiping of the interior that is moving the seat settings (those things are usually hot all the time).
pdq67 Mar 28th, 09, 2:09 PM High-jack in a way....
I didn't believe this crap until yesterday!!!
Our Lasco jacuzzi type tube's pump went out a while back and I finally got around to fixing it!
Got on the web and found out Home Depot is a dealer so away I went, pump in hand...
I asked the young Lady to get me onna the pumps and she looks in the book and then calls only to find out, Lasco only service's them, so no pump there.
Any way, long story short so on the web I went AGAIN and after much consternation, finally figured out how to get to a bath fixture wholesaler/supplier in Memphis so one is on the way out of AZ..
Talk about a TRIP!!!!!!!!!
The dealers and car companies better become one hell of a lot MORE customer friendly b/c if not, all of them will be SOL if we don't get our economy back in shape!!
