: Sorry not Chevelle...Is a 96&99 4Dr 4x4 Yukon/Tahoe Frame the same?

I have a guy who wants to sell me a straight frame for the 4 Dr 4x4 1996 Yukon my wife cracked the front up on last winter. I listed a WTB on Craigslist is how I got in contact with this fellow. He says it is a 1999 frame and will work for sure and they are the same.???

He is about 150 miles away and comes through my area often and will sell and deliver it for $400 and says it has some front suspension parts on it also, not to mention it is also Southern truck frame that is not rusty...He will be sending pics today.

I am trying to decide if I should go look at it or trust him to just bring it as he said he will... if I go look, that will take a day and fuel to mention! Decisions, Decision? He seems to be honest and runs a shop doing rebuilds but says he dont rebuild stuff that old anymore.

$400 delivered compared to around $1000 a frame shop said they would charge to straighten plus towing fees sound like a no brainer to me as I can do the body swap. My Yukon body is red with no rust and a near perfect grey leather interior.
It was a beautifull truck until the wife did her thing to it. I was able to buy it back from the insurance company very cheap as it ran great and had lots of mainteance done over the years.

Please tell me if this frame will interchange and if there is something I should look for that will give me a reason to not buy a 1999 4Dr 4x4 Yukon/Tahoe frame to do this rebuild...

Sorry to be so long winded...
What do you think?
What would you do?

Thanks,Dan

99 was the first year for the new body style but I believe only the Silverado pickups changed and Tahoes and Suburbans stayed for another model year, so 1999 would still be the 1990s body style. I know 2000 had both body styles. To be sure, I would verify it is for the 1990s old body style before you grab it.

Yes, It is the old body style...

But the junk yards are saying only 95 & 96 will interchange.

The guy that is going to sell me the 99 frame says he has rebuilt many of these in past years and being that I will be useing my 96 front diff and 96 wireing and such that there will not be any problems that cant be overcome...Like airbag senser location and type of sensers (like 1 or 2 sensers and/or wiring plugins and stuff like that)

Guess I was hoping someone here has been down this road that could give a confirmation as to whether or not these frames will interchange... with a go ahead I will be fine or dont do it because of something that wont let this 99 frame work for my situation!

Thanks for your input Chris as that would be a real problem if the guy sold me the new body style took my $ and ran. But for $400 I dont think he would be selling it to me with the rear springs still on and
A-arms still attached and even roller wheels and tires on the front.

He just simply says its to old for any type of rebuilds he doing and my $ is better than scrap price to him and he is doing some spring cleaning
at his shop and is driving within 2 miles of my house in Iowa to go Kansas City to pickup some other vehicle he bought.

Hopefully some will chime in with facts because I think he going to want to bring it my way probably the beginning of the week.

Not sure what the difference is, but a 96 4 dr Tahoe frame is different according to GM than a old style 99 Tahoe 4 dr frame both having a 5.7L.

96=12375992
97=15712539
98-2000 (TAHOE DIDN'T CHANGE UNTIL THEN)=15009070

Might be a simple difference, but that would be a lot of work to find out it's too far off.

Thats what I am finding out!
Even The fuel tank has a different Pt # as with pump also.
Talked to dealer here and says/thinks that as long as I keep same tank and wireing I should be ok?...but cant confirm for sure.

When GM started changing frames and bodys at that time putting who knows what body on what frame...new body old frame- new frame old body seems that even the books are messed up.
I cant get a straight answer out of anybody I have taked to (dealer, junkyard, aftermarket suppliers) nobody seems to have any real answers except the guy that is going to sell me the frame... maybe?
