was wondering where to find the date code location on a 71 or 72 chevelle/camino 12 bolt rearend. also how to decode it. thanks jason

I assume you mean the casting date. It is small "raised" code located on the center section.
Look at the rear facing the cover and the code is at the 5 or 7 O'clock position close to the cover opening. Will be a letter for month and number for day and last digit of year. H80 for example was cast on Aug 8th 1970.

The actual stamping is on the front (toward engine) side of the passenger axle tube. wire brush it off and read the letter codes. I have "Chevrolet by the Numbers", so post the letters and I'll reply with the results.
