: Windshield wiper trans problems

Does anyone have experience trying to repair a wiper trans that falls out of the wiper motor socket???

442 Harv Mar 25th, 09, 8:34 PM Not sure what you mean by fell out of the wiper? But I can tell you, if you take it apart, do not turn the wiper cam by hand, unless you know how to time it. I did this, and there is a timing, to the washer, and the wipers, work. Mine would bind up when I put it back togerther. When I looked at it and what it was doing, I can see it takes a timming thing with how manny turns it takes to complete the cylce of the wipper. I never figuared out what it was,went to the junk yard and bought a different washer pump, one in the park postion, and now works.

What falls out is the bracketry that bolts on the wiper motor ball on the inside of the cowl area. The actual wiper motor is cool.

I ended up replacing the whole wiper trans with parts from a ElCo and it worked. I noticed it operated much smoother so I guess some of the old linkage was bent. It was hard to tell by looking at the old linkage. Special thanks goes out to 70ChevelleRagtop for his excellent parts&service.
