CE - Chevrolet Engine
6 - Model year produced for. Since the CE prefix was started in 1968, this would seem to indicate an engine produced for the 1976 or '86 model year, CFB fits the 80's.
P - I can't find the info for this but it has something to do with the state of the engine build, i.e. partial engine meaning it could have been only a block, short block, fitted with pistons and no crank etc.
207773 - serial number assigned by engine plant with no meaning on engine itself, engines were built to be generic and to reuse original vehicles engine components that were salvageable like oil pan, water pump, heads, intake or what-ever. I almost impossible to determine what was new and what was original without a tear down and parts comparison.

S - Saginaw Service

10 - Day
CFB - 305 V8 used in various GM cars in the 80's.
Since this is in conflict with what you have been told, get casting numbers from block and I can reference that to what the black was designed for. Another thing is that the service engines don't usually have both the CE code and the original engine codes CFB. Sice they were designed to be generic, they did not try to model ID the engine. They would require too much inventory to cover all the possible applications.
