: Firewall vin #?

Did a search on vin # locations and found several refering to a vin behind or below the heater plenum. Can anyone get more specific as to whether you remove the plenum to see it or is it below the plenum? My motor is out so I have full access to the firewall and I pulled the plenum out about two inches to look around the edges. No visible vin. I also saw a post that mentioned 1/2 inch tall #'s used to stamp it and I still don't see it. It seems the subject is somewhat taboo because if thieves but any help would be welcome. ;)

if you pull the plenum and look just under the bottom lip of the rectangular hole and the round hole you should find it in both places
sometimes it will be in only one place but in either one of the locations though

Just so anyone else reading is clear.. this is notthe case for all year of chevelle, I assume the year being discussed here is already known, as it was not stated in this post.

It's a 1970 El Camino. Tom, there is a circular hole two inches above a rectangular (oblong) hole that are visible to the right of the plenum with it on. I believe where the heater hoses go? Are you refering to holes that are completely covered by the plenum because mine is blank beneath those? Thanks again.

Thanks for the pic! Took out the fender skirt, unbolted the plenum and there it was! I have absolutely no idea why I was so determined to see this but I feel much better now. graemlins/hurray.gif I also found more rust. :( Good news is the more I mess with it the more it seems less daunting of a task to tear it down. Putting it back together is another story....
