well here is the deal we upgraded my fuel system to 1/2" line new aeromotive pump with a bypass regulator well when we fired up the car the fuel pressure was at 15 psi fuel was shooting out of the vent tubes shut it down adjusted pressure to 6.5 psi adjusted idle mixture screws took it out for a cruise and it ran great my son took it out a few days later and said it was running great well the last time i went to start it it started but you had to stay on the pedal once you let off the pedal it ildels for a few seconds and then shuts down it will not idle is this a needle and seat issue maybe if so what do i do to rectify the problem i'm afraid to start taking the carb apart cause i know nothing about them so if someone could give me a walk thru it would be appreciated
thanks jim:beers:

Does it have a choke, and did you give it time to warm up - if so, did it still die once warmed up?

no it does not have a choke and yes i let it warm up had to stay on the pedal it starts fine but it will not stay at idle i guess i have to pull the needle and seat and see if they are clean and but like i said i don't know what the hell i'm doing when it comes to a carb so any help is appreciated
thanks jim

If its getting sufficient fuel when on the pedal it has to do with your idle circuit. Could be that something is clogging the metering. I had a problem with my primary metering block on my 4150 Holley. It was corroding and clogging up the metering and eventually not enough fuel was being delivered at idle so it would stutter and die when it tried to idle.

the pressure is 6.5 the filter is ok just put the inline trickflow filter on i did notice the last time i was working on it that the fuel in the sight glass was high like the third hash mark

Fuel should be just at the bottom of the hole, or below it, not visible through a holley. Not sure where the proper location is on a non-holley.

If it's not the float level, I would also say there's something clogging the passages. One of the tricks I've used before attempting to take it apart is to fill the carb with carb cleaner via the vent tubes, it will help clean up anything that can dissolve.

Adjust float level. Check for vacuum leaks.

Disable the pump. Crank the engine and keep it running until it runs all the fuel out if the carb and dies. Recoonnect the pump and fire it off. If there was a grain of trash in the needle seat it will wash out since the float fell all the way to it's drop allowing the needle to be at it's widest point out of the seat.
