: 70 ss??
jpr3390 Mar 24th, 09, 5:54 PM Ok, I have looked on this site and seen nothing of this, but wanted to know if it could be posable. I have a guy selling a 70 chevelle that claims it is a true ss malibu but it has a 307 engine and a sweep dash? The only thing throwing me off is he says the title says ss and he has the window sticker that says ss??
Any info would be great.
Other than if its a true ss or not he is asking 7500 (good buy or not)?
Finally Mar 24th, 09, 6:00 PM All 70 SS came with round gage pod dash, not sweep dash. All 70 SS came with big block engine, 396 or 454. Also all 70 SS had F41 suspension, rear sway bar and boxed rear lower control arms and larger, 1.25", front sway bar. Don't care what he says, not likely anyone would take an SS car and install a Malibu dash and small block engine.
$7500, depends on the car. You haven't provided any details or pics of the car so no way to tell. Could it be woth that much as a Malibu, not an SS, sure but that depends on the condition of the car.
You can buy window stickers on Ebay that say anything you want them to.
Big White Mar 24th, 09, 6:10 PM Joe,
There's no way that anyone here can tell you whether or not this car is a good buy without a lot more information - pictures especially.
As for the SS issue, either the guy is blowing smoke (walk away fast) or, the docs (assuming they're not fake or altered) that he has came from another car.
Again, if the car is in super-remarkable condition it might be worth the money, but don't buy it thinking that it's an SS.
grandsport Mar 24th, 09, 6:15 PM So,If someone took an SS and put in a 307 and sweep dash wouldn't that be a Malibu clone? :D
704EVER Mar 24th, 09, 6:20 PM Run, run far and fast!!
jpr3390 Mar 24th, 09, 6:26 PM file:///C:/Users/JoeLaura/AppData/Local/Temp/moz-screenshot.jpgSorry pics would help. The car has 2 year old new interior and said to have $2000 into engine w/ gear drive

Green-cars-live-forever Mar 24th, 09, 6:30 PM What do you want to do with it? Do you need a real ss for an investment? Or are you planning to drop a 555 in it anyway and terrorize your punk teenage neighbors?
jpr3390 Mar 24th, 09, 6:44 PM I want a good cruiser but if there is something shady they might be hiding i dont want it. Im not looking for a true ss but if i came across one at a good price i would take it.
He said the title was clear and says ss? but can that be fixed? I know the window sticker can, but a title too?
caminonut Mar 24th, 09, 6:44 PM The picture look's good but i'm thinking That no SS... :noway:
I've never seen a true SS with the chrome on the top of the fenders/doors and quarts, That's only on a Malibu...
On the title it should have Body Type MALIBU SPT COUPE
Also check the serial number on the title to the car and make sure the serial plate on the dash has the star rivets on it and not plain round ones...
jpr3390 Mar 24th, 09, 6:50 PM Thanks for all the info I will check
1badss396 Mar 24th, 09, 7:01 PM It sure looks and from the info so far its just a Malibu not an ss car yet.

YET l:)
Never heard of "SS" being on a title.
In 1970 that would be about the same as having white wall tires or FM radio on the title especially since the SS option was not a separate model.
Like I've said before, anyone selling anything will say ANYTHING so only believe about 5% of what they say.

My percentage is a little higher than that.
Finally Mar 24th, 09, 7:31 PM Malibu fender trim and looks to be Malibu, non-SS, grille. Looks to be a pretty good shape from what can be seen in the pics. Also has 307 tags on the fender, should have SS 396 or SS 454 behind the wheel if it were an SS. Bottom line, might be a nice car but no way it's an SS.

Take a quick look at the front brakes, if they are drums, it ain't no SS, but if it has discs, it may or may not be an SS.

Discs or no discs, look at the pics, no way it is or ever was an SS. No one strips everything that makes an SS off the car and replaces them with Malibu parts. 307 engine, sweep dash, Malibu trim on fenders, 307 tags on fenders, Malibu grille. I don't think we need to call in a forensics team on this one, it's pretty clear.
rwagner59 Mar 24th, 09, 9:41 PM I'm thinking Ray Charles would see a Malibu:D. Depends what you want as far as the price goes:thumbsup::beers:.

And any blind man would pay $50 to see that car whether it was an SS or not.
Malibulvr Mar 26th, 09, 12:41 AM I know in NY for a car that old all you have is a Transferable Registration tag to use as a title. If that were the case and then the car went to a state that titled older cars... I could see some DMV person asking the owner what make it is and having him say "it's an SS", der. LOL Why else would it say SS on the title, wouldn't be the first time the DMV screwed up, lol.
fishhead Mar 26th, 09, 11:36 AM I dont even know why you guys are wondering and "trying" to figure out what the car is...
Its a Malibu. <-------see the period
Perhaps the owner sees the words "sport coupe" on the title and is thinking its an "SS".
I would offer $5K and see where that goes. Cash Talks
Chris R Mar 26th, 09, 2:17 PM The seller himself may have gotten duped too and really believes what he is saying. If the car is in good condition, the price is too far off the mark and may still be a fair deal. If you offer 5K and it works out, then your doing pretty good too, I would try that also.

Pretty sure nobody here is wondering what the car is, that's pretty clear. Only question is what's it worth?
Twins Fan Mar 26th, 09, 10:56 PM The real question here is, who puts $2000 into a 307?:D
crazychevelleman Mar 26th, 09, 11:09 PM Is that a stationwagon? :p
d1_bradley Mar 27th, 09, 11:33 AM I agree with the $5k offer. Maybe more if he KEEPS the gear drive.........
Gear drive and 307...... REALLY?????
