This is the best place I could think of to post this question. Does anyone know of a good company that can get me a title legally? The chevelle I want to buy has one but it has been bought so many times, no one knows where the title is or even who has it. I know people use these services all the time, but I cant seem to find anything. Hope ya'll can help.

Before using a title service, have the current owner file for a lost title or for a sheriff's title for storage fees. That way your money is not at risk. www.google.com (http://www.google.com) search on title service will get you headed the other direction if the other way does not pan out.

Thanks ACE841, your information is really helpful, but to tell you the truth the guy that I want to buy it from says that his friend needs to talk to a guy who in turn needs to talk to another guy about the title. It is really a twisted web of.. of.. whatever. I dont know if I can get in touch with the guy who owns it, and when you say "owns it" do you mean the one who's name is on the title or the guy that owns it and has not transfered the title to his name. Hope you can help me out again. Thanks in advance.

Have the guy in possession of the car file for the lost title/title search. I hope that is is a little more clear on what I was trying to say. One thing you could do is contact the local PD and see if the car is stolen too. I am always leery of no title deals as they can blow up in your face relatively quickly. Of the 3 rigs I got for no title one was an 85 Z28 for $50 and the other is a 78 F-250 camper special that was free. The Z28 was cleared by the PD on the way home due to it falling half way off the trailer  Sheriff ran the plates as he helped me reload it
Check the Texas DMV for more info too on the no title situation as knowing as much as a DMV counter person does at the get go can help. The 3rd rig I got with no title but good paper work was an IROC from a fellow TCer and it was good that I checked the rules. I ended up with a title for the IROC after politely standing my ground and providing OR DMV with info from CA to prove they could title the car. The weird thing is at the beginning of this year the law changed and it would be next to impossible to do what I did last year. HTH and good luck.

ACE841 thanks again for the info. and your right, you should always be leary of cars with no titles, but I really like this car and I am willing to do what it takes to get some sort of paperwork on it. Thanks for you help and your suggestions, they put a different spin on things for me, thanks again.
