: putting pictures in posts....
Dave Birdwell Mar 22nd, 09, 10:29 PM I missed school the day they told how to link images from one post to another....IE, you upload a picture to one post, then want to put the same picture in another post.....how do you do it???
Thanks,
1badss396 Mar 22nd, 09, 10:48 PM Oh no here we go again....
Dave can you copy and paste?
You are using photo bucket?
Example are you trying to do this?

Dave Birdwell Mar 23rd, 09, 12:59 AM Not exactly, Brad...I'm talking about taking a picture that I have uploaded into a post here, and linking it to another post. I don't see any way to do it....but then again, I AM stupid.... :D
If I try to upload the same picture as I've already attached to a post, It won't let me upload it to another post. Maybe It can't be done.... :D
Xtreme70SS396 Mar 23rd, 09, 9:25 AM You don't really put the picture in the post, you are putting code in that tells the post where the picture is.
If you want the picture to show up, you can take any picture stored anywhere on the internet. Copy the location from the title bar and put in front of that location and after it.
For example, this is a picture from Redrum's post on the knives he makes - I don't have any control over the picture but can still use it:

Dean Mar 23rd, 09, 10:30 AM There is a difference in posting a picture and posting an attachment.
http://www.chevelles.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=10845&d=1197602967
This is one of my attachments from another thread but I had to change the code from [*url] to [*img]
go to user CP >attachments bring up a previous used attachment, copy the address and change the code to [*img] or just paste as is for a hot link.
LS_5 Mar 25th, 09, 7:33 AM I've had the same problem with attachments (not pics uploaded into a thread). If you try to re-use one of the attachments you posted in another thread, there doesn't seem to be any way to do it.
I assume it was set up that way to save bandwidth. That maybe Al didn't want the same pic posted over and over again in different locations.
Dean Mar 25th, 09, 9:56 AM Not sure if Al has control over exactly how the attachment feature part of the program works or not but you can bring up an attachment and copy the URL from your address bar then paste it into a post.
Not sure if you can post it as a thumbnail over again or not.
LS_5 Mar 25th, 09, 11:37 AM That's my issue, Dean. I used the wrong nomenclature. :clonk:
I upload thumbnails directly from my pc, but don't seem to be able to re-use them in another thread.
Highway Star Mar 25th, 09, 11:50 AM I think that if you were to open the thread where the image was initially attached/uploaded, then you should be able to right click the attachment, then from the drop down menu select properties, then copy the url and paste it into the dialog box for "insert image" which just wraps the url in the correct coding. This makes sense to me because technically you are keeping the attachment in one place, where you initially put it, and telling the new post to find it where you originally placed it in the other thread.
Like this:
Original post: http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=231649
Attachment: http://www.chevelles.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=14792&thumb=1&d=1214873818
EDIT: YUP IT WORKS!!!
Dean Mar 25th, 09, 11:56 AM The thumbnail works but it doesn't expand when I click on it.

And now it's too BIG :(
Highway Star Mar 25th, 09, 11:58 AM The thumbnail works but it doesn't expand when I click on it.
I copied the url of the thumbnail in that one. Here is the copy/paste of the actual image after opened to proper size in the other thread.

Are you with me Dean? Does this make sense to everyone following along?

I think that is going to have something to do with the original file's size and dimensions. This is over my head now. At least we figured out how to insert images previously uploaded and attached though, huh? :D
Dean Mar 25th, 09, 12:13 PM YEP
LS_5 Mar 25th, 09, 1:50 PM Ok. Thanks. That helps.
But I know that sometimes months go by and I'll forget that I already loaded a specific thumbnail, much less being able to remember exactly what Forum or thread or even when it was used. When I try to load it again from my pc, the system tells me I can't load something twice, or a message to that effect. And there's no way to back into where it was loaded to begin with that I can find.
If the attachment files list that pops up when you try to attach something, had some sort of identifier for each item, or a way to quickly link to where each one is on TC, having this porcedure for re-using something would be alot more user friendly.
If that's even possible?!?

To find the attached picture I used to make the example above, I went to my user CP, clicked on attachments, and it gave me a list of all of them by name, with a link to the thread where it lives just to the right. You should be able to find any attachment you've posted with that method.
LS_5 Mar 25th, 09, 2:42 PM Ok. Thanks! That helps alot!!
