Hit a deer with my 2000 GMC ECSB and this is the results. RH fender is rolled over, Both coolers, core support, fan shroud, fan, bumper, valance, fog light and everything else you see. (and I'm sure stuff you can't see) It's at the body shop right now for an estimate, See how close you can get.

We will probably all get sticker shock on this. There is probably a lot of hidden damage beneath that body work. I will go for $7500

I'll bid $1 Bob ;)

I think it will be somewhere in the $3500-$4000 range... I'll say $3750

If the truck were newer, I'd say $5000, but on a 2000 the insurance company will require either used or aftermarket parts. You won't be getting new GM stuff. :noway:

well no one has said it yet .
the trucks totaled repaires well cost more than the high retail on the truck
so you'll get a check for about $5000 - $5500

unless you have a loan they maybe they'll repair
for around $8500
but all it's going to cost you is your deductible of $250 - $500 - $1000 which ever you carry

chevelless502

Im guessing somewhere around $6500 and they will possibly total it. I hit a deer about 5 years ago in a 1997 Grand Prix and it was minor compared to that, just the hood and front bumper cover and it was $1900.

It's a shame I see stuff like this all the time. Insurance companies and body shops trying desperately to clear off the roads of older vehicles. With junk yard parts and new paint, it would cost me around $1,200 to make that truck look like new. Good luck.

Bow_Tied
Mar 22nd, 09, 12:30 AM
Wouldn't a body shop rather repair it? I thought they got no cash if it was a write-off? But they still need to make money to pay for all the overhead and environmental compliances, etc....

I'd guess that would be $5250 job. :)

Insurance companies, maybe... body-shops want the work, and would rather fix than total, especially on a hit like that one. Those light front hits are big money-makers for the body-shops, as they make more money off the parts than they do labor, and that one took out a LOT of parts. :) Unfortunately it's too old to get new GM replacement parts, and the markup isn't as good on used stuff. The only way the shop would *want* to total it, is if they're too busy, and all their other work pays better (new parts). Shops around here are slow right now, so they'd be begging the insurance not to total it.

2000 Grand Am last week Mary met the lady in front of her :D It was avery nice 89 tear old lady that convinced the officer that Mary did not need to be cited (and she wasn't) The bill was $2600 and all the damage is what you see, Nothing hidden. The right fender (which was fixed not replaced), hood, both headlamp assemblies and the bumper facia were all replaced with parts from a recycler (junk yard). I bought the car in January for $1900 and was hoping they would cut me a check for $2k and let me keep the car. The shop convinced the insurance company to fix it.

Mar 23rd, 09, 8:29 PM
The will total it unless you can talk them out of it.I went through the same thing a year ago.The value of the truck(in their opinion) was less than the repairs.I threatened to take them to court and things changed overnight.

Mar 23rd, 09, 8:53 PM
With that Grand Am it was just showing them and the adjuster the car was in exceptional shape. Even though it has 180k miles on it the overall condition is excellent. The car had been driven between New Mexico and Wyoming a lot and that is where most of the miles came from. And now all the rock chips that were in the hood paint will be gone so it will look even better ;)

Good job Brad and Jeff. The wife hit a deer in a 88 Cherokee I bought for $1000 as a winter beater a few years ago. It had about 180,000 miles on it when I bought it. I put about $900 in new parts(tires, brakes, etc.) so total all in for $1900. She hit it doing about 60-65mph but just clipped the chest and neck of the deer at about a 45% angle and it glanced off. The wife was fine but it took out the header panel(including grille, lights, etc.), the driver fender and door, and the bumper. The passenger side fender was only tweaked a little. At that time it was already rusty and had 200,000 miles on it which I figured meant I was getting squat. The insurance company offered a $2000 cheque after taking off the $500 deductable and I got the Jeep back with a clean title! I gladly excepted their offer and promptly went to the local pick-a-part. $120 and half a days work later(rattle can paint match), I had it back on the road! :D It currently has one foot in the grave at roughly 315,000 but what a great buy. Probably my best car buy, if looking at intended purpose and usefulness. The way I see it, after I got the insurance cheque I had $20 into the Jeep. I'm at 315,000 miles, so I got 135,000 miles out of a vehicle that cost me $20! The only crappy thing was that I arrived at the accident scene within an hour and someone had already grabbed the deer!!!!

My daughter was doing 70 mph on the highway last weekend and got hit in the rear door and quarter by a deer. Thank God it didn't get out in front of her or she would most likely have been in a pretty bad wreck. I found a door for $150.00 that needs about 1.5 hours of work. I'll straighten the damage on the quarter and then get a local shop to match the paint.
