Gm sells crate motors as we all know. But,,, do they sell a factory made short block? i am looking for a basic 350 with one piece crank seal.

Don't see much of those anymore -thought they were discontinued except for CE type shortblocks.
However http://www.sdparts.com/catalog/crateengines/GMPerformancePartsShortBlocks.aspx
Might also check your local dealer for the OEM replacements.

Thanks for the input. What is weird is that Jeg's shows a long block with the valve covers and oil pan in place (and all the internals) for $1550 which is about the same price as the Summit short block. Kinda makes a guy wonder.

The reasoning behind not selling short blocks, as I understand it from talking to my old boss and several other machine shop people, is warranty. They just can't rely on people to put on a top end without screwing something up. Whether it be a mistake or just simple dirt, too many engines fail when the customer is allowed to assemble the top end. And because everyone of them will want warranty, because we all know it wasn't OUR mistake, it's not financially viable to sell shortblocks with a warranty. Would be nice though, all the fun is in the top end.
