Could someome please decode the following pulleys:

3 groove crankshaft pulley stamped 3946014 AH

1 groove waterpump pulley stamped 932430DW

I am trying to see if these are correct for 70-72 396 with AC and PS.

BTW, could someone tell me how to tell the difference between deep groove and standard groove pulleys.

deep groove pulleys were standard on the solid lifter engines, all other engines did not receive the deep groove pulleys.

ie L78 396/402-375hp and the LS6 454-450hp

the intent was for the belt to ride lower in the groove and therefore "stay" on the pulley at the higher rpms the solid lifter engine would see as opposed to the other engines.

you can lay your finger in a deep groove pulley and not the standard depth pulley

This is also why you will not see factory a/c and the solid lifters ... nor would you find deep groove pulleys on an air conditioned car, unless someone changed them

Jim, Thanks for the description on deep vs standard groove, I am fairly new at this but this site really helps.

The question still remains are these two pulleys correct for a 72 396 with AC based on the casting numbers or can I tell by pulley dimensions, Anyone?
