how can i find out when my 70 convertible was built. i have not found the build sheet.

look for the code in the top left corner of the cowl tag (on firewall). There will be a 3-digit Alpha-numeric code (##A) on the left side of the first line.

The first 2 digits are numbers and will correspond to the month : 01 for January, 12 for December, etc

Usually, production started in July or August for the coming model year. so a code like 09D would be the 4th week of September 1969 for a 1970 model... Not sure how GM strikes affected these dates, but the date can be roughly compared to the VIN #. Since the VIN was sequential, an early production date car should have a low Vin#...

the last digit will be a letter (A, B, C, D or E) corresponding to the week of the month...

These codes were stamped "Prior" to the car being built, so the actual completion date may differ slightly (the cowl tag was used by Fisher Body to prepare the body for certain options, which is why some options show up on some cowl tags).

I have a number of build sheets for the 70 model year. Along with the info supplied above, if you'd post or send me (easier) the assembly plant and the last 3 or 4 of the VIN, I can compare it the samples I have and come close. Or, you can go to these 70 build sheets (http://www.chevellestuff.com/70velle/70_build.htm) and compare them yourself.

I think he posted elsewhere that he was born in 1970, maybe that's the week he was concieved. :eek:
