Just purchased a 68 396 SS and last owner says he was told it was a CE Motor. I can't find numbers on it but it don't take the spark plugs that books say a 68 should. Now I don't know what it is and would like some help. All I found on block (so far) was

It was near the oil filter. That's another weird thing. It takes a Motorcraft FL1A filter? What is up with that? Can someone tell me where to find numbers so I can identify what engine I have and can buy some parts?

Look for anything stamped on the machined pad in front of the passenger side head. If it's a true warranty block it'll be stamped with something like C (Chevrolet) (E) Engine 8 (year) 71234 (sequence number of engine).

Thanks for that post. I have a 402 and a 427, both CE 4 bolt main blocks and have been looking for quite some time to verify what they are.
