: '70 SS Dash Radio Cups
gregg1970 Mar 18th, 09, 8:36 AM The dash assembly on my '70 SS has the radio cups cut off at the ends. The stubs are still there. These are the pieces that support the radio with the knobs. Does anyone know if someone is making just the cups or am I going to have to fabricate something myself. Thanks
DONTWANT2 Mar 18th, 09, 10:29 AM You will probably have to fabricate something. Fiberglass may be the best approach.
CY72SS Mar 18th, 09, 10:45 AM There was an article in the March/April 2000 Chevelle World Magazine about dash repair. The name of the ACES member who was making replacement radio standoffs. His name is Andrew Filkins. The article lists his address and phone:
Dr. Dash

Maybe you can purchase an old copy if there are any available.
Raupleminze454 Mar 18th, 09, 1:06 PM I cant believe you posted this, I was just going to start a similar thread. I am also facing the same problem, the previous owner hacked the cones to install an aftermarket radio and I have been looking for a way to fix it. Problem i am having is that the dash has already been repainted.

I have found some plastic caps that I was going to epoxy onto what was remaining of the cones, but I figured I would see if anyone else had any ideas. Hope you dont feel that I am hijacking your thread, I just have the same problem and am looking for the same info.

Big White Mar 18th, 09, 6:39 PM Gregg,
Your problem is not uncommon and is a frequently asked question. I'm sure there are a lot of other guys who could profit from your experience and your quest to find those cups.
Please keep us informed and let us know how you make out - both in sourcing those cups and your repair work as well.

70ChevelleRagtop Mar 18th, 09, 7:39 PM I used to do car stereo installation for a living back in the early 80's. I remember there being older cars that came with steel reinforcing cups inside the plastic stand-offs. Unfortunately, for the life of me, I can't remember what cars came with them. Those would be just the ticket to make the repair.
EDIT...I found some on Ebay... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/69-74-NOVA-N-O-S-AM-FM-RADIO-DASH-MOUNTING-CUPS-GM-AM_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c66Q3a2Q 7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3a 2Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem1 10344661351QQitemZ110344661351QQptZCarQ5fAudioQ5fV ideo

I am a little dense today, how would these work?

I see they are listed for Nova, they will work for a 1970 Chevelle with the stock radio?
CRUZN69 Mar 20th, 09, 1:10 PM You will have to cut off the rest of the plastic cups on your dash bezel. Make them flush and install the nova cups. It'll work. The shaft depth on the radios are the same.
