Does the production number indicate the number of all cars put out at a particular plant, or the number of that particular model? In other words my 67 Chevelle has a number of 106011. Is that the 6011th Chevelle made, or 6011th vehicle made at that plant?
Thanks, as usual

Chevelle models only to include sedans, coupes, convertibles, station wagons and El Camino's if they were also built there.

To answer your question, each plant began with the same number, 100001. Your's is numbered according to that plant.

A total of 403,693 model 13xxx Chevelles/El Caminos were produced in 1967 at six plants. With finished cars rolling off the line every few seconds at each plant, trying to decide which was the x,xxxth produced overall would be a logistical nightmare for the plants. Six plants assembled '67 Chevelles and three of those also assembled '67 El Caminos.

Yes, I knew that the 6011th would apply to this plant only, and not take into account the other plants. That would have been a nightmare to keep track of. Was just wondering if mine was the 6011th Chevelle or the 6011th GM vehicle produced at Fremont that year. I didnt know what all models they did.
One more question; It seems a relatively low number of production, yet the production date shows second week of Oct 67. Seems late in the year for an early production number. These days we can see 2004 vehicles in 2003. Were things different back then?
just curious.
Thanks

In Oct of 1967 they would have been already building 1968 models. You car has to be Oct 66 with that low a number, 1967 production ran Aug 66-Jul 67.

Yes, its just the Chevelle line count and not the total plant production.
