I have a '66 Chevelle. I have read here that the '66 is a one year only steering column. Would one from a '66 Caprice work?

I don't know for sure, but I don't think so, as the Caprice is a "B" body style.

No, because the steering shaft is much shorter since the box sits farther back on the frame than a Chevelle. 64elkynss

That's correct. The Caprice & Impalas had the steering box behind the front crossmember. Won't work for a Chevelle.
