The brake cylinder on my drivers side rear wheel starting leaking and I need to do a fix.

4-wheel manual drum brakes are, at best, crummy. I'm thinking of replacing the wheel cylinders, springs and linings with the "brake in a box" ones from Praise Dynamics. I don't really want to mess with front disk, but I do want a considerable improvement. Anyone have any thoughts on how good...or bad, this choice would be. If I do the work myself the parts will be about $330 for front and rear.

a new wheel cylinder is like $10, decent shoes are about $20 a set, and hardware kit is around $20... throw in new drums and you could probably do a total stock rebuild on front and rear brakes for less than $200 with parts from your local NAPA.

You're right, i could do it cheaper than the Praise brakes.

The question is, will the extra $130 over replacing the stock stuff improve my braking? It would seem that it would almost have to be an improvement over the crummy stock brakes, but i was hoping someone has some experience with with the Praise product they could tell me about.

Thanks for replying to my post.

replce both wheel cylinders. usually if you only replace one, the other goes very shortly after.

the Praise stuff looks to be slightly better than stock stuff- and you'd still have to buy new drums or get yours machined.
the stock stuff you can get locally is likely more than adequate for what you want, and you'd be helping a local business.
