: 69 Chevelle tag
p/lineman Mar 10th, 04, 9:55 PM I have a 69 Chevelle that I believe is a 300 Deluxe with SS 396 package. The car had no motor when I got it but has numbers matching Muncie 4 speed and 12 bolt rearend. It also has power disc brakes, two fuel lines ( one large, one small.) Some of the interior is missing I can tell this was an oringinal clutch car and has SS dash and door trim. The engine to frame mounts are also BB. The vin number is 134379K438420.The tad reads: ST69 13437 KAN298466BDY TR752 57 57PNT 14D 08423 L. What do think? Any info you can provide would be great! smile.gif
Don_Lightfoot Mar 10th, 04, 11:27 PM Here's some of the information:
ST69-13437 - 69 Chevelle 300 Deluxe 2 door hardtop V8.
KAN - Kansas City Assembly Plant.
438420 - Sequential serial number.
TR752 - Black bench seat interior.
PNT 57 57 - Fathom Green, no vinyl top.
For 1969 there is no way to tell from the Serial number or the Trim plate if it is a Super Sport. Some of the items you mention are good indications. A good source would be here (http://www.chevelles.com/shop/ss_ident.html).
If it is an SS and the fuel lines are correct, then it would be a 325 or 350 HP car as 375 HP cars had just the single fuel line.
If the door panels have an "SS 396" emblem on them as you say then they are not correct. The 300 Deluxe models with the SS396 option still said just "Chevelle" on the door panels. I would assume the panels have been replaced with Malibu/SS396 panels as the 300 Deluxe panels are not reproduced.
I have a lot of information on the 69 300 Deluxe Models on my website below, you might find it useful to check it out.
Hope this helps.
p/lineman Mar 11th, 04, 12:17 AM Don,thanks for the info. Iam probably not going to try to restore this car back to numbers matching original as I'am not into that , but may stay with original color and bench seat. I do have a 69 396 motor for the car and am going to use the 4 speed. The front seat was gone and only have the one door panel with the SS on it was with car. I see that your 69 has the same exterior trim as the Malibu SS. Did all 300 deluxe SS' have that same trim? How about the dash trim with the SS emblem? Was it possible to get a 300 deluxe with the BB but not the SS package? Did the SS package always include the same markings? By the way, thats a great looking Chevelle you have!!!! thanks, Jim
ccarney69 Mar 11th, 04, 1:26 AM I think that the only reason the 300 didn't get the 396 door panels was because of the vent window that was eleminated in the sport coupe in 69 but not in the 300. I may be wrong but remember reading that.
p/lineman Mar 11th, 04, 9:36 AM ya, someone else also said that with the post cars being the older style they would be different. Anyone know of or have a 300 Deluxe sport coupe with SS package? thanks, Jim
Don_Lightfoot Mar 11th, 04, 11:04 AM Jim, when the SS option was ordered on one of the 300 Deluxe two door models they came with all the exterior trim items from a Malibu. They did get the same dash SS emblem.
About the only 300 Deluxes available with BB and no SS option would probably have been some police specials.
There are several members on here with 300 Deluxe SS hardtops. Three that I know of are Ron Cook, Keith Tedford and Von Cassidy. I don't think they visit this "Tag" forum very often, but maybe one of them will jump in.

My car has been tweaked on by previous owners, so I cannot say for sure how the interior looked originally as it now has a malibu/SS trim with buckets. But as Don noted, the exterior stuff is all malibu/SS. THe interior of a 300 Deluxe is different with vinyl trim around the windows, shorty sunvisors, different headliner pattern, and rubber floor mats.
One thing to look for is the bolted steering rag joint that is big block only, as far as I know. Also look for the brake valve mounted to booster just below and to the side of the m/c.
p/lineman Mar 13th, 04, 9:22 PM Ron, thanks for the info. My car does have the bolted steering joint and the brake valve mounted to the booster. I'am planing on keeping the car as close to stock looking as possible except performance items . I do not have a front seat. I'am considering putting a bench seat back in the car. Does someone make covers and kits for them? thanks again ,Jim
Don_Lightfoot Mar 13th, 04, 10:56 PM Jim, the 69 300 Deluxe seat covers, like a lot of the interior pieces, are not being reproduced. The 300's could have come with either a fabric or all vinyl inteior. Mine is vinyl with those white stripes running on the seat portion of the front and also running on the back and seat portion of the rear.
The vinyl seatcovers came with the outside sections finished in "grained vinyl" while the inserts of the seating sections were kind of "basket weave". Let me know if you would like some detailed pictures of mine, be glad to take some for you.
My buddy Keith Tedford (300 Deluxe hardtop owner) indicated to me a while ago that a place in Portland, Oregon apparently has or can do the basket weave fabric. Some day when I have a bunch of extra "dineros" I may approach them to see if they can redo a set of door panels. when I say "extra" dineros I'm sure it will be a lot of "EXTRA" dineros :(
Check out their website if you like at http://www.smsautofabrics.com. Good luck.
Keith Tedford Mar 14th, 04, 5:30 PM SMS Auto Fabrics in Portland, Oregon is where we got the basket weave vinyl to repair the driver side seat insert. Great people to deal with from our experience. Check www.canamchevelles.com (http://www.canamchevelles.com) for some 300 Deluxe SS396 pictures.
