Hi, can anyone help decode the mysterious paint code I have on the original cowl tag of my 1968 chevelle SS conv.? The original paint color on the car is sequioa green. the code should be VV as stated from factory code charts, but the code stamped on the tag is 02. The paint suppliers are puzzled because their charts dating back to 1968, show no correspondence of any type with that code, which should be letters instead of a number. I'm at the final stages of a ground up restoration ready to paint the car, and debating whether to paint the car any '68 color now that this code doesn't reflect any factory specification. Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated. gdigabriele@msn.com

I guess the first question is how do you know the original color is Sequoia Green? You are almost right that the paint code should be two letters (if solid color) or letter/number if a vinyl top or convertible car. Being a convertible, the second character would have to be "1" for a white top or "2" for a black top...V and V would not be correct for this car but V 1 or V 2 would. There is no "O" color for '68 but could it have been misread and it's really "C" (white), "D" (Grotto Blue), or "G" (Ash Gold)?

Where was the car built? What is the trim code? There would be a limited selection of interior colors for a Sequoia Green car. Any chance of posting a photo of the tag or at least the codes from the entire tag?

The correct paint codes for 1968 are letter letter or letter number.

You probably do not have 02 (zero 2), you have O2 (letter O 2)

O - Corvette Bronze (could have been a special order)
2 - Black top

If you are sure the car is green, then something is amiss with the color or the trim tag. Is everything correct with the VIN and tag matching the car? Nothing been changed??

Here is the color charts for 1968 (http://autocolorlibrary.com/cgi-bin/search/searchpic.pl?1968-chevrolet-pg01.jpg)
